Miami Marlins starter Braxton Garrett (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm flexor strain on Sunday morning. He was scratched from Sunday's start with reported elbow soreness, but now his ailment is clearer. Kyle Tyler was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and will start Sunday's game. The Marlins rotation has been decimated by injuries this season and Garrett is no exception. The 26-year-old produced a 5.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 34:4 K:BB through seven starts in 2024. It is unclear at this time whether Garrett will need surgery as additional testing still needs to be done. Nevertheless, it seems like he will be sidelined for a significant period of time.
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett is experiencing elbow discomfort and will not make Sunday's start against the visiting Seattle Mariners. He is currently under evaluation on Saturday. The 26-year-old's season got off to a late start due to a shoulder issue and it appears an elbow ailment could potentially cause him to miss additional time. Garrett has endured an up-and-down season that has seen him pitch to a 5.35 ERA across seven starts but his 3.39 xFIP, 3.32 SIERA, and quality 18.6% K-BB% all suggest he has been much better than his surface ERA indicates. Fantasy managers have been frustrated by the way 2024 has gone on the heels of a 3.66 ERA and 19.3% K-BB% in 2023 but the prudent move is to exercise some patience and keep an eye on the southpaw's status in the coming days.
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett turned in an excellent performance in a 3-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Garrett threw a complete-game shutout, striking out six, walking none, and allowing just four hits in the win. The veteran lefty appears to be rounding into form after he opened the season on the injured list with a left shoulder impingement. He has now made three starts for Miami this season, with his best effort coming in Friday's shutout win over Arizona. Garrett now has a 1-0 record, 5.30 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts over 18 2/3 innings of work. Fantasy gamers will want to check waivers to see if Garrett is available now that he's shown he's over his early-season injury.
The Miami Marlins reinstated left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday and placed right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move with a right-shoulder impingement. Garrett, who hasn't pitch in the big leagues yet in 2024, is expected to make his first start of the year on Sunday against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. The 26-year-old has returned from a shoulder impingement of his own. Even though Sunday's matchup against the Phils isn't the best he could have for his first start back, Garrett is worth rostering in most mixed leagues now that he's healthy. Garrett looked good on his minor-league rehab assignment and went 9-7 last year with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with a career-high 156 K's in 159 2/3 innings over 31 outings (30 starts).
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) dominated on Monday in his minor-league rehab start with the team's Florida Complex League affiliate, tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings with one hit allowed while walking one and striking out 13. Fantasy managers should take this outing with a grain of salt because it was against rookie-level competition, but it's nevertheless a good sign for a pitcher that appears to be on the cusp of making his 2024 big-league debut. The 26-year-old is recovering from a left-shoulder impingement and should be able to make his next start with the Marlins after making five rehab starts. If Garrett is available in your mixed fantasy league, he deserves to be picked up ASAP after his mini breakout season in 2023.
