Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (forearm) will make a minor-league rehab start with Single-A Jupiter on Thursday and will go either three innings or 50 pitches. Garrett has been given the green light to pitch in games again after throwing a live batting practice session over the weekend and a bullpen on Tuesday. Because of the fact that the 27-year-old southpaw has been on the injured list since the middle of June, he's likely going to need at least a couple of rehab starts, which means he probably won't be able to make more than one or two starts in the big leagues to close out the season. Fantasy managers can't be expecting much from Garrett the rest of the way, especially since he's made only seven starts in 2024. In those seven starts, he posted a 5.35 ERA (3.83 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with 34 strikeouts and only four walks in 37 innings.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett (forearm) played catch before Wednesday's game against the visiting Cincinnati Reds in Miami as he builds up in his throwing program. Garrett said he's about a week and a half away from beginning to throw bullpen sessions. He was placed on the injured list on June 23 after he was scratched from his scheduled start due to a left forearm flexor strain, and Garrett isn't expected to rejoin Miami's rotation until sometime in September. The 26-year-old southpaw owns a 5.35 ERA and 1.19 WHIP to go with a sharp 34:4 K:BB this season, but he's difficult to stash in fantasy leagues without a whole lot of time remaining to make an impact.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett (forearm), who has been playing catch in Jupiter, Florida, was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. He was originally placed on the IL on June 23 after getting scratched from his scheduled start due to a left forearm flexor strain, and he'll now be out through mid-August with the move. 2024 is shaping up as an injury-ruined year for Garrett, who has been limited to 37 innings (seven starts) for the Marlins while yielding a 5.35 ERA and 1.19 WHIP to go with a tidy 34:4 K:BB this season. By the time the 26-year-old southpaw begins a minor-league rehab assignment, the last-place Fish will not have much incentive to bring him back in any capacity this year. After being one of fantasy's breakout stars of 2023, Garrett is fairly safe to drop in all leagues without much time remaining to be a factor for those who were still holding on.
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (forearm) began playing catch this week after being put on the 15-day injured list back on June 23 with a left-forearm strain. The Marlins are being careful with the 26-year-old southpaw given his history of arm injuries, but it sounds like he's finally ramping up as he prepares to return to Miami's starting rotation in the second half of the 2024 season. Before returning to the big-league pitching staff, Garrett is going to need at least a couple minor-league rehab starts, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back until at least mid-August. The former seventh overall pick in 2016 struggled in his first seven starts earlier this year before going on the shelf, recording a 5.35 ERA (3.80 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with a 21.1% strikeout rate but with a strong 2.5% walk rate in 37 frames.
Miami Marlins starter Braxton Garrett (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm flexor strain on Sunday morning. He was scratched from Sunday's start with reported elbow soreness, but now his ailment is clearer. Kyle Tyler was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move and will start Sunday's game. The Marlins rotation has been decimated by injuries this season and Garrett is no exception. The 26-year-old produced a 5.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 34:4 K:BB through seven starts in 2024. It is unclear at this time whether Garrett will need surgery as additional testing still needs to be done. Nevertheless, it seems like he will be sidelined for a significant period of time.
