Griffin Conine Suffers Dislocated Shoulder

Miami Marlins outfielder Griffin Conine (shoulder) exited early during Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Conine dislocated his left shoulder while sliding into second base. He was removed from the contest and Javier Sanoja took over in left field. The team has announced Conine suffered a dislocated left shoulder which almost certainly means he's headed to the injured list. The 27-year-old has been a decent bat for the Marlins this season. The expectation is that Sanoja and Dane Myers would see more playing time if Conine lands on the injured list.

Griffin Conine, Matt Mervis Sitting Against Lefty

Miami Marlins outfielder Griffin Conine and first baseman Matt Mervis are both out of the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Washington Commanders at loanDepot Park with left-hander Mitchell Parker on the mound. Javier Sanoja is starting in left field and is hitting eighth, while Eric Wagaman is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup against Parker. These moves won't register in most fantasy leagues. Conine has started his second year in the big leagues hitting .237 (9-for-38) with a homer, double and an RBI in 12 games played. Mervis, meanwhile has displayed some power (three homers, seven RBI) in 29 at-bats for those in deep NL-only leagues. Sanoja is still searching for his first career homer in his 23rd game, while Wagaman should be considered one of the weakest cleanup hitters on Friday's slate of action.

Kyle Stowers, Griffin Conine Competing For Left Field Job

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Miami Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers and Griffin Conine will compete for the left-field job during spring training. Jackson noted that the team is hopeful Stowers can "recapture some of the promise he showed with the Orioles." Before being traded to Miami, the outfielder held a strong .306 AVG. However, once he joined the Marlins, Stowers saw his AVG drop to .186 and held a poor .262 OBP. He also hit just two home runs across 50 games. Despite the drop in production, Stowers still generated a 51.3 percent hard-hit rate, which is a positive sign. Conine made his MLB debut last season and had a .268/.326/.451 line across 30 contests. He tallied four doubles and three home runs with 12 RBI. Both outfielders will only have value in deeper formats as they have yet to have much extended success at the MLB level.
