Ryan Weathers Listed As Wednesday's Probable Starter

The Miami Marlins are listing left-hander Ryan Weathers (finger) as their probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at LoanDepot Park. Weathers is coming off five scoreless innings in a minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville. Wednesday's start will be his first game action in the big leagues since June 7, so he'll be a shaky fantasy streamer with a likely short leash in terms of his pitch count. The matchup against the first-place Dodgers is another reason to fade Weathers in his return to Miami. Before his finger injury, the former seventh overall pick by the San Diego Padres in 2018 had a solid 3.55 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP, 67 strikeouts and 20 walks in his first full year with the Fish. He had a quality start in his lone start against LA on May 8, when he allowed three earned runs with one walk and three K's in six innings pitched.

Ryan Weathers Looks Good In First Rehab Start

Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers (finger) looked good in his first minor-league rehab start with Single-A Jupiter on Tuesday, tossing three scoreless innings while giving up two hits, walking none and striking out three on 43 pitches (27 strikes). Weathers was moved to the 60-day injured list on July 7 to clear space on the team's 40-man roster while he recovers from a left index-finger strain. Barring a setback on his rehab assignment, Weathers is expected to return to Miami's starting rotation in the middle of September. The 24-year-old southpaw has been out since early June, so he figures to need at least one more rehab start before the big-league club is comfortable activating him. Weathers, a former first-rounder, had a 3.55 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 67 strikeouts in 71 innings over 13 starts earlier this year before his injury. He's most likely only going to make a start or two for the Marlins down the stretch.

Ryan Weathers Throws On Flat Ground

Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers (finger) threw on flat ground on Monday in front of the training staff before the contest against the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Weathers is currently on the 60-day injured list with a left index-finger strain but is hoping to throw bullpen sessions in two weeks before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. Because of the fact that the 24-year-old southpaw has been on the IL since June 8, he's going to need at least several rehab starts before rejoining Miami's starting rotation for the final month of the season in September. Weathers had an encouraging start in his first full season with the Fish, posting a 3.55 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with a 22.5 percent strikeout rate and 6.7 percent walk rate in 13 starts. Unfortunately, fantasy managers aren't going to get much out of him the rest of 2024.
