Miami Marlins relief pitcher Jesus Tinoco threw two perfect frames to record his first save in a 6-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Tinoco didn't allow a baserunner and struck out two. The 29-year-old hasn't pitched in a ton of high-leverage situations this year, with only six holds to his name, but he has been a reliable reliever for the fish. With limited options in their bullpen, Tinoco could be the next guy up. He was also used in the ninth inning in his last appearance against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, giving even more reason to believe this is the guy. Still, there is no confirmation of Tinoco being the closer and the Marlins aren't likely to get many more save chances anyway, so expectations should be tempered. In deeper leagues, though, he may be worth taking a shot on.
The Chicago Cubs acquired minor-league right-hander Jesus Tinoco from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. In a corresponding move, the Cubs optioned reliever Daniel Palencia to Triple-A Iowa. The 29-year-old Tinoco has a 4.58 ERA in 57 career major-league games, including nine games with the Texas Rangers in 2024. In his 10 innings pitched out of the bullpen with Texas, he gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while walking seven and striking out nine. At Triple-A Omaha for the Royals, he posted a 4.05 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with a save, 10 strikeouts and one walk in just 6 2/3 innings. Tinoco has a career 4.58 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with one save and an 18.1% strikeout rate in his five major-league seasons. He'll operate as relief depth for the Cubbies and isn't anywhere near the fantasy radar.
