Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) is on track to take live batting practice during this weekend's series against the Cubs in Chicago. Manager Ron Washington said prior to Wednesday's game against the division-rival Oakland Athletics that the club hopes Rendon will be ready to get on the field for the Angels' matchup against the defending-champion Texas Rangers on Monday. There is currently no plan for Rendon to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before returning from a strained left hamstring. Although the 34-year-old former All-Star is hardly relevant in fantasy baseball at this stage of his career, he still projects as Anaheim's primary third baseman when healthy. Brandon Drury will be at risk of losing playing time in the infield upon Rendon's seemingly imminent activation from the 60-day injured list.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) was seen taking live grounders at third base on Friday and will now face live pitching on Thursday or Friday of next week, according to Michael Huntley of the Sporting Tribune. In addition, Angels skipper Ron Washington said he hopes Rendon can return to the diamond on July 8, when the Angels will start a three-game set against the Texas Rangers. The 34-year-old was shifted to the 60-day injured list on May 9 with a high-grade tear in his left hamstring. Prior to the injury, Rendon posted a .267/.325/.307 line with no home runs, three RBI, three swiped bags, and a 6:15 BB:K ratio in 19 games. When he returns, he should be expected to slot in as the everyday third baseman in Los Angeles, which will shift Luis Rengifo, who has been covering the hot corner, to second base.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) ran the bases on Monday for the first time as part of his rehab. There remains no timetable for Rendon to return from a serious left-hamstring injury, so fantasy managers in deeper formats shouldn't expect to see him back in the big leagues until sometime in the second half of the season. The oft-injured 34-year-old is probably going to need a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment as well before the Angels reinstate him from the injured list. In his four seasons with the Halos, Rendon hasn't played in more than 58 games in a single campaign after making his first All-Star team in 2019 in his last year with the Washington Nationals. Before his latest injury, he was hitting .267 (20-for-75) with no homers and three RBI in 19 games. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should continue to let him languish on the waiver wire.
To make room on the roster for infielder Luis Guillorme on Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels transferred third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) to the 60-day injured list. It means that Rendon won't be eligible to come off the IL until June 21. The 33-year-old oft-injured veteran is on the shelf yet again with the Halos after suffering a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring almost three weeks ago. We'll know more about a specific timetable for Rendon's potential return in another few weeks, but he's unlikely to be ready to come back when he's eligible to come off the IL on June 21. Luis Rengifo, Brandon Drury, Ehire Adrianza and Cole Tucker have all been options at third base for the Angels since Rendon's injury, and now Guillorme could get his shot after being acquired from the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) said he has a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring and doesn't have a timetable to return. The Angels placed Rendon on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, but the 33-year-old is certainly going to be out for an extended amount of time. Ever since signing a seven-year deal with the Halos, Rendon has mostly been in the trainer's room and has been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball after recording a league-high 126 RBI and a career-high 34 home runs in his final year with the Nationals in 2019. Before the injury, he was hitting .267 (20-for-75) with no homers, three RBI and three steals. We wouldn't blame you for dumping Rendon to the waiver wire at this point. Miguel Sano has been playing third since Rendon went down, but Brandon Drury could also see time there moving forward.
