Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (elbow) is sitting out Saturday's game against the Atlanta Braves but will avoid a stint on the injured list, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The 34-year-old left Friday's game early after getting hit by a pitch in his elbow, but with the recent news, this injury does not seem too significant. As a result, Brandon Drury will cover the hot corner on Saturday and bat in the six-hole. Since returning to game action on August 7, Rendon has held a solid .280 AVG. Across his past seven games, Drury has posted a modest .238 AVG but has reached safely in every game. DFS players should fade Drury and most of the Angels lineup this evening as they will face Atlanta southpaw Chris Sale, who sits with a 2.61 ERA and 0.98 WHIP and is a favorite to win the NL Cy Young.
The Los Angeles Angels reinstated infielder Anthony Rendon (back) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and placed outfielder Taylor Ward on the paternity list in a corresponding move. Rendon returns to the Angels on the first day that he was eligible to come off the 10-day IL, but he'll have to wait a day to get back in the starting lineup after Tuesday's contest in the Bronx against the New York Yankees was postponed due to rain. The 34-year-old has been out due to injuries more often than he's played for the Angels since joining the team before the 2020 season. In addition to his frequent injuries in Anaheim, Rendon has been a shell of his former All-Star self with the bat and will return to a .227 average (29-for-128) with a career-low .562 OPS. He has yet to homer in 33 games in 2024 and has driven in just six runs in 142 plate appearances.
The Los Angeles Angels placed infielder Anthony Rendon (back) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 27) on Tuesday with lower-back inflammation and recalled infielder Michael Stefanic from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Rendon was only able to play in 14 games for the Halos after coming off the IL in early July following a three-month absence due to a hamstring strain. The 34-year-old will be eligible to come off the IL this time around on Aug. 6, but given his lengthy injury history and reputation as a slow healer, we wouldn't be surprised if his absence extends beyond that. Luis Rengifo is making the start at the hot corner on Tuesday against the visiting Colorado Rockies and is likely to split time at the position with Brandon Drury for the foreseeable future. Not only can Rendon not stay healthy anymore, but he's hitting .227 (29-for-128) this year and has yet to homer.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is not in the team's starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale on the road in Seattle against the division-rival Mariners. With Rendon retreating to the bench for this one, Luis Rengifo will start at the hot corner and will bat second for the Halos versus Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. It's an odd day for Rendon to get a day off, as he's hitting .417 with a 1.588 OPS, two home runs and three RBI in 12 career at-bats against Castillo. Rengifo, on the other hand, has hit .294 with a 1.118 OPS, three home runs and four RBI in 17 career at-bats against Castillo. Willie Calhoun is the designated hitter and will bat cleanup. In 12 games since returning from the injured list on July 8, the disappointing Rendon has gone 8-for-45 (.178) with two doubles, three RBI, 11 strikeouts and one steal in 50 plate appearances.
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (hamstring) has been activated off the 60-day injured list on Monday. Rendon will make his return to the lineup after missing the last two and a half months due to a lingering hamstring issue. He'll bat leadoff and cover third base versus right-hander Jon Gray on Monday. Rendon might be able to offer value in deeper mixed leagues, assuming he actually stays healthy. In a corresponding move, third baseman Miguel Sano has been designated for assignment after a fairly sluggish start to his season.
