TJ Friedl Collects Three Hits, Off To A Solid Start This Spring

Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in Sunday's 7-3 spring loss to the Kansas City Royals. He doubled twice and increased his spring batting average to .333 after the three-hit performance. The 28-year-old is slashing .333/.429/.500 with two runs scored over five games. He will hit leadoff against right-handers, where he posted a .336 on-base percentage against them in 2023. Overall, Friedl slashed .279/.352/.467 with 18 home runs, 66 RBI, 73 runs, and 27 stolen bases over 556 plate appearances. While he finished with solid overall numbers last season, his 3.2% barrel percentage was in the seventh percentile, while his 27.6% hard-hit percentage was in the fifth percentile. Despite ranking in the bottom in hard-hit percentage, Friedl should lead off most games in a loaded Reds lineup and is a solid pick at his current NFBC ADP of 151.

Zack Gelof Belts A Pair Of Doubles, Averaging .389 This Spring

Oakland A's second baseman Zack Gelof went 2-for-3 with two doubles, RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 5-2 spring win over the Texas Rangers. Gelof put the A's on the scoreboard with a double to left-center off Dane Dunning in the first inning to give Oakland a 1-0 lead. The 24-year-old has been red hot this spring, slashing .389/.476/.889 with two home runs, four RBI, seven runs, and a 1.365 OPS over seven games. "The at-bats he's taking are reflective of what he did last year," said A's manager Mark Kotsay. "Zack's right where he needs to be to have success." Gelof will look to build off his successful rookie campaign, where he posted a .364 wOBA with 14 home runs and stole 14 bases over 69 games. The 24-year-old has an NFBC ADP of 132, but that number could rise if he continues his torrid spring.

Colton Cowser Homers, Continues Red Hot Spring

Baltimore Orioles top outfield prospect Colton Cowser went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-2 spring win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cowser led off the third inning with a solo blast off southpaw Martin Perez for his third spring homer. The 23-year-old continues to mash and is slashing .364/.563/.1.182 with three home runs, six RBI, and a stolen base over six games. He has also reached base in nine of 16 plate appearances. Cowser struggled in his first call-up to the majors, hitting just .115 over 77 plate appearances in 2023. He retooled his swing during the offseason, and it's paid off so far after a blistering start this spring. The 2021 first-round pick slashed .300/.417/.520 with 17 home runs and nine steals across 87 games with Triple-A Norfolk last season. Cowser is competing for a spot on Baltimore's Opening Day roster and is worth a late-round flier in most fantasy leagues if he continues to rake.

Jackson Holliday Continues To Struggle

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Jackson Holliday continued his slump at the plate during Sunday's contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The young infielder went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during the victory. Holliday is now 4-for-17 with seven strikeouts in six games this spring. There's still plenty of time for him to heat up, but it appears Holliday still has more work to do in the minors. It shouldn't be too long before Holliday is ready to tear it up at the big league level.

Dauri Moreta Exits Early On Sunday

Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Dauri Moreta (elbow) was unable to finish his outing against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The right-hander saw a significant drop in velocity before a visit from the training staff. The 27-year-old was pulled out of the contest due to right elbow discomfort. Moreta was a key piece to the Pirates bullpen last season as he made a career-high 55 appearances with Pittsburgh. The assumption is that Moreta will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. He probably won't have fantasy value unless it's in category leagues that incorporate holds. There should be more news on his status in a few days.
