Cal Raleigh Hits First Home Run Of Spring Wednesday

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh blasted his first home run of the spring on Wednesday in a 9-7 Cactus League loss to the Kansas City Royals. It was a three-run shot off Royals relief pitcher Chris Stratton, and it was also his first hit of the spring. The switch-hitting backstop is now 1-for-3 with a walk, three RBI, and two runs scored in two Cactus League games. The home run came from the left side which has been his more powerful side throughout his career, with a .248 ISO as a lefty and a .170 ISO as a righty. The former third-round draft pick won't hit for a high average but with 30 HR last season and a 12.6% barrel rate, fantasy managers can count on the power numbers being there again in 2024.

Cole Ragans Tosses Three Innings Of Scoreless Ball On Friday

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Cole Ragans made his second start of the spring on Friday, pitching well in a 5-4 Cactus League win over the Oakland Athletics. The southpaw went three innings, allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out three. Ragans struck out the first two batters he faced on three pitches each and now has a total of eight strikeouts in just five innings of work across his two starts with no earned runs allowed. After joining the Royals from the Rangers last season, Ragans was superb as a starter and he'll look to maintain that momentum in 2024. If these two starts are any indication of that, it appears he's picking up where he left off.

Matt Chapman Signs Three-Year Deal With The Giants

Free agent third baseman Matt Chapman and the San Francisco Giants agreed on a three-year, $54 million contract on Friday. Chapman's deal includes an opt-out after the first two seasons, and he will make $20 million in 2024, $18 million in 2025, and $16 million in 2026. The 30-year-old has legit power, evidenced by his 56.4% hard-hit percentage and 17.1% barrel rate, ranking in the 98th percentile per Baseball Savant. Overall, Chapman slashed .240/.330/.424 with 17 homers and 54 RBI across 581 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last season. He will join a potentially potent Giants lineup with new acquisitions Jorge Soler and Jung Hoo Lee. Chapman should be in San Francisco's lineup daily and could easily pop 20-plus homers (ATC projects 24) in the heart of the Giants' batting order. However, with the recent signing, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Chapman's NFBC ADP of 275 to jump too much, making him a solid pick at his current ADP in upcoming fantasy drafts.

Juan Soto Blasts Homer On Friday

New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto continues to make hitting look easy as he took control during Friday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The left-handed slugger went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a pair of runs scored during Friday's win. His home run came in the fourth inning when he took Chad Green deep to help increase the lead to 7-3. Soto has been impressive early in camp. He is 4-for-6 with two home runs and six RBIs, so fantasy managers shouldn't pass on during draft day.

Gerrit Cole Has Mixed Results During Spring Debut

New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole made his spring debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. The veteran right-hander saw mixed results during Friday's win. Cole allowed two runs on four hits over two innings of work. The 33-year-old stuck out one batter and didn't issue a walk during his short outing. He served up a two-run home run to Daniel Vogelbach in the opening frame. After that, Cole settled down and looked fairly sharp. Fantasy managers shouldn't read too much into this outing and believe in Cole as the ace pitcher he'll likely continue to be in 2024.
