The Boston Red Sox will send infielder Vaughn Grissom to Triple-A Worcester, sources tell ESPN's Kiley McDaniel. It doesn't come as a big surprise, as Grissom really didn't do anything in spring training to stand out above the team's top options at the keystone in prospect Kristian Campbell and David Hamilton. Grissom, 24, has hit only .176 with a .535 OPS in 13 Grapefruit League games and will now serve as infield depth in the minors to begin the 2025 season. Once a promising prospect with the Atlanta Braves, Grissom's best path to fantasy relevance moving forward might be a trade. He was expected to open last year as the team's starting second baseman, but groin and hamstring injuries in the spring prevented that from happening. He appeared in just 31 games at the big-league level and hit .190 with no homers, six RBI and two steals.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jorge Alfaro was unable to make the big-league club and was reassigned to minor-league camp on Wednesday. Alfaro did a nice job during camp, but he didn't have much of a shot at making the MLB club to begin the season. The Brewers will ride with William Contreras and Eric Haase behind the plate to start the regular season. Alfaro sat out last season and only played 18 games between the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox in 2023. The expectation is that Alfaro will head to Triple-A Nashville as depth in case an injury happens at some point during the season.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Ronel Blanco (upper body) was pulled out early during Wednesday's spring training contest. Blanco was hit by a line drive in the upper body during his final inning of work. He didn't appear to be in much discomfort, but there was action in the bullpen after the incident. The Astros are likely just being cautious here with it still being spring training. Possibly a minor injury, but the Astros are likely to address Blanco's departure after the contest. For now, fantasy managers don't need to worry as it sounds like Blanco has avoided any kind of serious injury.UPDATE: Blanco gave a thumbs-up to Francisco Lindor, who hit the liner, and to catcher Yainer Diaz afterward.

San Francisco Giants first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. is expected to be the leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching to begin the season. Wade lacks the speed of the usual leadoff hitter, but makes up for it by drawing walks. Wade is hitting below .220 this spring, but he also has 10 walks, which does help make up for his lack of a batting average and lackluster speed. The 31-year-old would likely see a boost in fantasy value with the move to the top of the lineup. The leadoff hitter usually gets more at-bats and sometimes better pitches to hit because pitchers don't want to walk the first batter before getting to the two or three hole hitter.

New York Yankees relief pitcher Tyler Matzek (oblique) is scheduled to take the mound for a bullpen session on Thursday. Matzek has been dealing with an oblique strain since early in camp. He has resumed his throwing program, but could see begin the regular season on the injured list. The southpaw is likely going to need to throw a few bullpen sessions before he's ready for game action again. The 34-year-old was awful in 11 appearances with the Braves last season and didn't pitch at all in 2023. It remains to be seen how much Matzek still has left in the tank.
