Luis Rengifo Scratched With Hamstring Tightness

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (hamstring) was scratched from Monday's Cactus League lineup against the Colorado Rockies due to hamstring tightness, according to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. Infielder Tim Anderson will take over for Rengifo at second base and will bat in the leadoff spot. The Angels likely pulled Rengifo out of the lineup as a precaution, so we'll consider him day-to-day for now. Especially with Zach Neto (shoulder) starting the year on the injured list, Rengifo should be playing regularly somewhere on the infield for the Halos between third base, second base or shortstop, as long as he's healthy. The 28-year-old will also likely be hitting near the top of the lineup against right-handers, giving fantasy managers a nice utility infielder to target later in drafts for his contact skills, positional versatility and speed.

Taylor Ward Day-To-Day With Knee Soreness

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward (knee) is being considered day-to-day at camp while dealing with knee soreness, according to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher. Ward hasn't played in a Cactus League game since last Friday, although it doesn't appear that he's dealing with a serious injury. Barring a setback with his knee, we'd expect the 31-year-old veteran to be back in a spring training game later this week. When healthy, Ward will be the starting left fielder for the Halos again in 2025 and could also hit in the leadoff spot, boosting his run-scoring opportunities. Fantasy managers won't think too highly of Ward just because of where he plays, but his barrel rate and average exit velocities in 2024 were pretty impressive. Ward finished as a top-40 fantasy outfielder last year without fellow outfielder Mike Trout in the lineup for much of the season.

No Timetable For Parker Meadows' Return

There is no clear timetable for Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows' (arm) return this spring from a nerve issue that he's been dealing with in his right arm, according to the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold. According to a doctor, the Tigers must wait for Meadows' musculocutaneous nerve to "wake up," which could take anywhere from two to six weeks. The 25-year-old's nerve issue isn't a long-term concern, and while the Tigers are still hopeful he will be ready by Opening Day in late March, there's also a good chance Meadows will have to open the 2025 season on the injured list. It makes him a pretty risky fantasy pick at this point for outfield depth in mixed leagues. Meadows hit .296/.340/.500 with six home runs in 47 regular-season games after his return in August last year after coming back from a strained hamstring. When healthy, he should be a regular outfielder for the Tigers.

Austin Slater Has Left Oblique Strain

Chicago White Sox outfielder Austin Slater (oblique) was scratched from Monday's starting lineup due to a left oblique strain. Fantasy managers should expect the 32-year-old to be sidelined for a few games. The team has not provided an update regarding the severity of the strain. Earlier in the offseason, the White Sox signed Slater to a one-year $1.75 million. Last season, Slater spent time with the Giants, Reds, and Orioles. Across 84 MLB contests, he held a .209/.321/.266 slash line with two home runs and three stolen bases. He showed an elite eye at the plate as he drew walks at a 12.3 percent rate but only generated a modest .232 xBA. When healthy, Slater will likely operate in a platoon role but could be in line to see more opportunities at the start of the season with Andrew Benintendi (hand) sidelined with a hand fracture.

Ernie Clement Exits After Being Hit By Pitch

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Ernie Clement (face) exited Monday's spring training contest early after getting hit by a pitch in the face. Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet noted that the infielder has lip lacerations and contusions. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he will likely be held out of action for some time. Last season, the 28-year-old logged a career-high 130 games at the MLB level with the Blue Jays. He held a .263/.284/.408 line with 12 home runs and 12 stolen bases. He showed an elite eye at the plate as he struck out at a near perfect 9.1 percent rate (100th percentile). However, he generated a low 24.9 percent hard-hit rate. When healthy, he should be expected to be Toronto's third baseman. If he were to miss time, Addison Barger should be the top candidate to replace him.
