Mitchell Parker Spins Six Shutout Innings

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Mitchell Parker was sharp in Sunday's win over the Milwaukee Brewers, pitching six shutout innings with three hits allowed to go with three walks and three strikeouts. It was the sixth win of the season for the left-hander who evened his season record at 6-6. Parker's ERA is now 4.06 and he is sporting a 1.19 WHIP. This outing shows a bit of the 24-year-old's potential, but his limited strikeout upside and modest ratios make him a bit of a risky option in most fantasy leagues.

Mason Miller Set To Throw Live BP On Monday

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Mason Miller (finger) was seen playing catch on Saturday without a cast and is set to throw live BP on Monday, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. Miller has been logging successful bullpen sessions while wearing a cast on his non-throwing hand but will now progress to the next step without the protection. The hard-throwing right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list on July 25 after fracturing his left pinkie. Before the injury, the 25-year-old was enjoying a big sophomore season, boasting a 2.21 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and a 14:70 BB:K ratio across 40 innings of work. Under the hood, he carried a 45.8% K rate, 38.2% chase rate, and a 43.0% whiff rate, which are the best marks in the sport. Fantasy managers could expect the top-tier reliever back on the mound potentially earlier than expected, given his progression so far. When he returns, Miller will be one of the best relievers in all formats, given his incredible strikeout potential despite the limited save opportunities.

Chris Martin Feels Good After Bullpen, Nearing Return

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Chris Martin (elbow) felt good after his bullpen session on Saturday, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. McCaffrey further expressed that there is a chance Martin will be activated off the 15-day IL on Wednesday instead of embarking on a rehab assignment. The 38-year-old hit the injured list in early July due to right elbow inflammation. If Martin continues to progress well through the early part of the week, he may avoid a rehab assignment altogether. Prior to the injury, Martin held a 3.42 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a 2:29 BB:K ratio. While Martin should return to a high-leverage roll, he could contend for save opportunities as Kenley Jansen has blown two saves in his past five outings.

Ian Hamilton Set for High-Intensity Bullpen

New York Yankees relief pitcher Ian Hamilton (lat) is set to throw a high-intensity bullpen session on Tuesday, August 6, according to MLB.com. Hamilton hit the 15-day IL in June due to a lat strain. He recently began the first steps in his throwing program and will now progress to a much higher-intensity exercise. Prior to the injury, the right-hander held a 4.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and a 14:30 BB:K ratio through 29 innings of work. He did very well in limiting hard contact with a 3.4% barrel rate and generated whiffs at an elite 35.1% mark. The 29-year-old is still several steps away from returning to the mound as he has yet to face live hitters. When he does return, fantasy managers should expect Hamilton to produce a high amount of holds as he was typically deployed as a set-up man to Clay Holmes.

Alex Verdugo Dealing With Undisclosed Injury

New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo (undisclosed) is feeling a "little beat up" according to Yankee skipper Aaron Boone. This is why the 28-year-old was kept out of Sunday's starting nine. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports that Boone did not get into any specifics and simply said the outfielder is "all right." For now, fantasy managers should consider Verdugo day-to-day entering the start of the week. This afternoon, Aaron Judge shifted to left field, which opened center field up for Trent Grisham. If Verdugo were to miss any extended period of time, Grisham is the most likely candidate to see an uptick in playing opportunities.
