Bryse Wilson Tagged For Five Runs In Relief Role

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Bryse Wilson was tagged by the Colorado Rockies in Monday's 8-7 loss, allowing five runs (all earned) and seven hits over four innings. Wilson replaced opener Rob Zastryzny in the second inning and immediately allowed homers to Charlie Blackmon and Brenton Doyle while striking out three and walking two. He is now 5-3 with a 4.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, striking out 62 and walking 28 over 78 innings. Wilson's penchant for allowing dingers has been an issue, as he's allowed 14 homers. Monday's outing marked the fourth time in six outings that Wilson has yielded at least three earned runs, so now is a good time for fantasy managers to bail on him.

Quinn Mathews Sharp In First Double-A Start

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitching prospect Quinn Mathews looked quite sharp in his Double-A debut as he tossed 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball (both unearned) with just one hit, three walks, and three punchouts. Mathews has been one of the best young arms in the minor leagues this season as he posted a stellar 2.68 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 9:58 BB:K through 43 2/3 innings at High-A earlier this summer. While his strikeout numbers were a bit low in his first look at Double-A, dynasty managers should not need to worry. The former fourth-round selection from Stanford has been one of the biggest risers on prospect rankings this season and could reach the major leagues as soon as next year due to how well he has produced this season. The 23-year-old southpaw remains a must-stash in dynasty formats.

Colby Thomas Showing Power Surge At Triple-A

Oakland Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas recently joined Triple-A Las Vegas and has begun to showcase his elite power potential. In his past six games, the Mercer product has posted a .348/.464/.783 slash line with an eye-catching 1.247 OPS. In this stretch, Thomas has launched three long balls with one double and tallied eight RBI. He only went one game in this stretch without tallying at least one hit. Overall, through his first 13 games at Triple-A, the 23-year-old has held a strong .327/.417/.596 line. The number 11 ranked prospect in the Oakland system on MLB Pipeline has progressed through the minor leagues very quickly after needing just 54 games at High-A and 59 games at Double-A to reach the top level of the minors. Thomas has a strong chance of making his major league debut in the second half of the season and could become a popular stash candidate in redraft leagues if he continues this power run.

Tim Anderson Being Designated For Assignment

The Miami Marlins plan on designating struggling shortstop Tim Anderson for assignment. The move should free up guys like Vidal Brujan and Xavier Edwards for regular playing time with an eye toward the future. Anderson was Miami's only major-league free-agent signing in the offseason at $5 million for one season. The 31-year-old unfortunately continued the downward spiral that began in his final season with the Chicago White Sox last year. Through 65 games in 2024, the two-time All-Star hit just .214/.237/.226 with no home runs, three doubles, nine RBI, four stolen bases, seven walks and 68 strikeouts in 241 plate appearances. Anderson has just one home run in the last two seasons and will now hope to latch on with another organization when he eventually becomes a free agent. Edwards has yet to homer in his 33 big-league games dating back to last year but is worth a look in NL-only leagues now that he's back in the fold and set to see playing time in Miami.

Mitch Jebb Posts Three Straight Multi-Hit Games

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop prospect Mitch Jebb has had at least two hits in his past three games at High-A Greensboro. The former second-round selection out of Michigan State has had a difficult time adjusting to High-A ball, but his recent production is a good sign that things are turning around for the young infielder. In his past six games, he has only gone hitless once and holds a strong .579/.724/.737 line. Through his first 63 games at this level, the number six ranked prospect in the Pittsburgh system sits with a .224/.319/.320 line with five long balls. However, since June 1, he holds a .272/.412/.358 line which suggests the 22-year-old could be in store for a nice second half of the season and breaking out of his prolonged slump.
