Free-agent right-hander Bryse Wilson agreed to a one-year, $1.05 million deal, pending a physical, with the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, according to a source. The deal includes a potential $250,000 in performance bonuses. The 26-year-old will compete for a start in the starting rotation for the rebuilding White Sox. Wilson chose to head to free agency after being removed from the Milwaukee Brewers' 40-man roster this offseason. He threw 104 2/3 innings in the regular season for the Brew Crew in 2024 and had a 4.04 ERA with 82 strikeouts and 31 walks in 34 appearances (nine starts). As exclusively a reliever for Milwaukee the year prior, Wilson was better with a 2.58 ERA in 53 outings, although he was a bit fortunate. If Wilson does make Chicago's rotation, he'll most likely be more of an innings-eater than anything else and will be a low-upside streamer in deeper fantasy formats.
Milwaukee Brewers first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers and right-hander Bryse Wilson both cleared waivers on Monday and were outrighted to Triple-A Nashville. Both Bauers and Wilson were arbitration-eligible but will become free agents after being cast off the team's 40-man roster. Bauers matched his previous career-high of 12 home runs and also drove in 43 and stole a career-high 13 bases in 116 games in 2024 in his first year in Milwaukee, but he also hit just .199 with a .301 on-base percentage, .361 slugging percentage and below-average .662 OPS. He's now hit only .208 in five big-league seasons with five different teams. Wilson, 26, served as a swingman for Milwaukee this year, going 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with a career-high 82 K's and 31 walks in 104 2/3 frames over his 34 outings (nine starts).
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Bryse Wilson appears to be the odd man out in Milwaukee's starting rotation after the club acquired right-hander Aaron Civale from the Tampa Bay Rays this week. Civale will make his team debut on Friday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, while Wilson will be relegated to the bullpen for the time being, according to manager Pat Murphy. The 26-year-old hurler currently has a 4.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP on the year in 20 appearances (nine starts) while striking out only 62 hitters in 78 innings of work. Wilson has allowed a lot of hard contact this year but has been slightly better out of the bullpen, so that's where he'll head for the time being. He was already a pretty weak streaming option in deep-mixed leagues before the change, so now he belongs on the waiver wire in all mixed fantasy formats.
