USA Today's Bob Nightengale writes that the best reliever on the trade market this summer will be Miami Marlins left-hander closer Tanner Scott. The Marlins are asking a considerable amount for Scott but believe it will be met by the July 30 trade deadline. The 29-year-old southpaw reliever has had a strong year for fantasy managers with a 1.50 ERA (3.69 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, 12 saves, 38 strikeouts and 23 walks in 36 relief innings for the Fish this year, but if Scott is traded, he's not expected to take over the closer's role for a contending team to close out the second half of the season. He'd surely maintain relevance as a high-leverage reliever in holds leagues, though. The Yankees, Orioles and Phillies are three teams that are expressing interest in acquiring Scott for their bullpens.

The Chicago White Sox have had several teams contact them about center fielder Luis Robert Jr., but given his struggles this year, they are considering hanging onto him into at least the winter since he's under team control through 2027. Robert is hitting just .205 (24-for-117) with 14 RBI and 18 runs scored in 31 games, but he's also managed nine home runs despite missing a big chunk of time due to another injury. The 26-year-old Cuban slugger finally managed to stay healthy in 2023 and made his first All-Star team by hitting 38 home runs, driving in 80 and stealing 20 bags in 145 games. Robert still has the potential to be a beast if he can just stay on the field, so the White Sox would be crossing their fingers that he can stay healthy going into next season so that they can potentially trade him next summer (or even this winter) at his highest value.

Oakland Athletics star closer Mason Miller is expected to stay put at this summer's trade deadline. Miller has been so electric this year in his first full season as the team's ninth-inning arm that not only do the A's want to keep him around as they begin their eventual transition to Las Vegas next year, but his price has become astronomically high. The flamethrowing 25-year-old right-hander has been lights-out for fantasy managers and the A's in 2024, posting a 1.96 ERA (1.80 FIP), a 0.79 WHIP, his first 14 saves, 64 strikeouts and 13 walks in 36 2/3 innings in his second year in the majors. The former third-round pick in 2021 out of Gardner-Webb University routinely hits triple digits on the radar gun and has an absurd 47.1% strikeout rate.

The Chicago White Sox are openly shopping outfielder Andrew Benintendi and would love to get out of his contract. Benintendi is still owed nearly $50 million from 2025 to 2027 under his current deal. It's going to be a hard ask for another team to take on Benintendi's contract based on the way he's played so far this year, but perhaps a contending team that wants to add a veteran left-handed corner outfielder will poke around later this month. The 29-year-old former seventh overall pick by the Boston Red Sox in 2015 out of Arkansas is slashing a weak .196/.246/.300 with six home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored in 65 games in 2024 in his second year in Chicago. The White Sox's five-year, $75 million deal with Benintendi has aged terribly before two full seasons, and it's not like he's playing great defense, either.

The Detroit Tigers have gone 32-45 since winning the first five games of the season and will once again be sellers at this summer's trade deadline, shopping right-hander Jack Flaherty, who signed a one-year, $14 million deal this offseason. Flaherty has been a massive value signing for the Tigers while going 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA (3.05 FIP) and 1.00 WHIP with 115 strikeouts and 14 walks in 89 innings over his 15 starts in what has been a big bounce-back campaign. It only makes sense that they'd try to sell high on Flaherty after building his value back up in the first half of 2024. The 28-year-old did allow three home runs in a loss in his last outing against the Los Angeles Angels, but he still managed to strike out six and currently ranks third in baseball with a 33% strikeout rate. Flaherty landing with a contender for the second half would make him even more valuable in fantasy this year.
