Brooks Lee Lands On 10-Day Injured List

Updating a previous report, the Minnesota Twins placed infield prospect Brooks Lee (biceps) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with biceps tendinitis and activated infielder Kyle Farmer (shoulder) from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. The 23-year-old Lee had been seeing regular playing time for the Twins with Carlos Correa (heel) on the IL, but he'll now be forced to miss at least the next 10 days. The former eighth overall pick in 2022 out of Cal Poly has hit .253 (25-for-99) with two homers, 15 RBI, two steals and eight runs scored in his first 26 major-league games since being called up. With Lee out, Farmer figures to see regular playing time at the keystone in Minnesota. Farmer is starting at second and batting ninth for the Twins in Game 1 of their Friday doubleheader against the visiting division-rival Cleveland Guardians and rookie left-hander Joey Cantillo.

Brock Stewart Done For The Season

Minnesota Twins right-hander Brock Stewart (shoulder) will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder in Cincinnati next Tuesday. The procedure comes with a five- to six-month recovery timeline, so he'll have a goal of ramping up for spring training in 2025. The Twins moved Stewart from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Friday. It's been a tough year for the 32-year-old reliever, as he's managed to pitch only 15 2/3 innings for Minnesota in 2024, posting a 5.17 ERA (3.81 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and eight walks in his 16 appearances out of the bullpen. Stewart only pitched in 27 2/3 innings in 2023 because of arm issues, too, but he was a lot better with a 0.65 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and his second career save. Hopefully, he'll be ready to rock for the start of the 2025 regular season.

Joe Ryan To Miss Significant Time With Teres Major Strain

Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan's (triceps) injury is worse than the team expected. Ryan is headed to the 15-day injured list and was diagnosed with a Grade 2 teres major strain that will take "weeks to months" to heal, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. The Twins didn't rule him out for the season just yet, but it's certainly more severe than initial indications. It's a major blow to a Twins team looking to get into the postseason. It's also a big blow for Ryan's fantasy managers, as there's a very good chance we won't see him pitch again in 2024. Minnesota will call up right-hander Louie Varland to start Game 2 of a doubleheader on Friday against the visiting division-rival Cleveland Guardians, and he could stick around in the rotation in Ryan's spot for the foreseeable future.

Trevor Larnach, Matt Wallner Sitting Against Lefty

Minnesota Twins outfielders Trevor Larnach and Matt Wallner are taking a seat on the bench in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the visiting division-rival Cleveland Guardians with left-hander Joey Cantillo on the mound. Manuel Margot is making the start in left field and will bat leadoff, while Royce Lewis shifts to designated hitter and is batting third against Cantillo. Jose Miranda is at third base and is hitting cleanup for the Twins. Margot has some sleeper appeal in the leadoff spot for DFS purposes, but he still has a pretty low fantasy ceiling and is batting .266 (30-for-113) with three of his home runs in 58 games against left-handed pitchers this year. Expect to see Larnach and Wallner back in action for Game 2 of the twin bill versus Guardians right-hander Alex Cobb.

Brooks Lee Out For Game 1, Could Be Heading To Injured List

Minnesota Twins infield prospect Brooks Lee (undisclosed) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Friday against the visiting division-rival Cleveland Guardians, and he could be heading to the 10-day injured list with an undisclosed injury. With Lee out on Friday, Kyle Farmer will make the start at second base and will hit ninth against Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo. Lee, 23, is one of the team's top prospects and has hit .253/.309/.333 with a .642 OPS, two home runs, two doubles, 15 RBI, two steals and eight runs scored in his first 26 major-league games in 2024. Check back for more information on the specific nature of his injury and how long he might be out if he's officially placed on the IL. Farmer figures to benefit from more playing time at the keystone for however long Lee is sidelined.
