The New England Patriots are not expected to place the franchise tag on LG Joe Thuney, allowing the 28-year-old to hit free agency, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Patriots are not expected to use their franchise tag on OG Joe Thuney as they did last year, per sources. Thuney likely headed to the free-agent market.

Thuney, 28 years old, played the 2020 season under the franchise tag, and the two sides never seemed to come close to an agreement on a long-term deal. A third-round pick in 2016, Thuney has played all five of his career seasons with the Patriots and has never missed a game. He was a second-team All Pro in 2019. He hits free agency and is expected to command a big contract somewhere.
