The New York Giants are expected to place the franchise tag on star DL Leonard Williams ahead of the deadline, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal is expected to buy the two sides time as they work on a long-term deal.
Williams, 26, was a first-round pick (sixth overall) for the New York Jets in the 2015 draft. He was traded to the Giants halfway through the 2019 season. He made the Pro Bowl with the Jets in 2016 and was PFF’s No. 5 defensive lineman in 2020.
