We are in the thick of the college football season, and in addition to covering DFS as well as PrizePicks, I will be releasing a couple of weekly betting articles. The purpose of this writeup is to highlight some of my favorite college football games to bet on, give you my reasoning for picking said game and direct you to the site with the softest line.
Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Indiana Hoosiers
(Penn State -14, O/U 50.5, DraftKings Sportsbook)
This one is simple. The Nittany Lions have lost their chance at winning their division in the Big 10. They’ll be playing angry in this matchup, and they get to face a Hoosier defense that is giving up well over 400 yards of total offense to their opponents. This is a great opportunity for Penn State to get their running game back on track as well with freshmen tandem Nicholas Singleton (606/7) and Kaytron Allen (472/5) having the talent to torture IU all game long.
Betting Trends
- Penn State is 5-3 against the spread this year.
- Indiana is 3-5 against the spread this year.
- Six of eight Penn State games have gone over their total.
Best Bet
Penn State -14 (-110)
Liberty Flames vs. Arkansas Razorbacks
(Arkansas -13.5, O/U 63.5, DraftKings Sportsbook)
We have made some money betting Liberty recently and while I think they have a chance to cover in this matchup, I’ll be targeting the total instead. The Flames are averaging over 31 ppg and are led by Hawaii transfer RB Dae Dae Hunter. He has rushed for 825 yards and 8 TDs through 8 games while producing 17-147-1 in the passing game. The Hogs have sprung a leak on defense and are giving up massive yardage to the running back position. Hunter possesses a unique skill set that should be problematic for the Hogs and lots of points will be scored here for both sides.
Meanwhile, Arkansas is led by dual-threat supreme KJ Jefferson. He has racked up 1,700 passing yards/15 TDs and has rushed for 389 yards/6 TDs. He has myriad weapons in RB1 Rocket Sanders (1,000-plus rushing yards) and plenty of viable pass-catchers. The Hogs are scoring over 33 points per game while surrendering over 31 ppg to their opponents. There will be points. Oh yes, there will be points.
Betting Trends
- Seven of eight Arkansas games have gone over their projected point total.
- Liberty games have gone over in four of eight.
