The 2025 NFL Combine is kicking off at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, a city the league has partnered with for over 37 years. The yearly event has grown over time. The expectation is that over 30,000 fans and potentially more than 1,000 media members will be in attendance. This is in addition to the personnel that each of the 32 NFL teams will be sending as well.

Nearly 329 players will be at the Combine. Each of them goes through a grueling series of interviews, exams and workouts. This is where hype builds for certain prospects while others are derailed by poor results. Some of the drills players will take part in include the three-cone drill, vertical jump and the 20-yard shuffle. However, the marquee event has always been the 40-yard dash.

This flagship drill historically gets a lot of attention from the masses as it helps teams determine as well as evaluate the fastest players at the Combine. The 40-yard dash is especially important for position groups such as running backs, wide receivers, tight ends and defensive backs.

The schedule for the position groups is as follows:

  • Thursday, Feb. 27 — Defensive lineman and linebackers
  • Friday, Feb. 28 — Tight ends and defensive backs
  • Saturday, March 1 — Quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers
  • Sunday, March 2 and Monday March d — Specialists and offensive linemen

Combine 40-Yard Dash Odds and Best Bets

Let’s take a look at the odds for the 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Combine.

Fastest 40-yard Dash Time

Slower than 4.255 seconds (-140)
Faster than 4.255 seconds (+110)

These odds can be found on DraftKings Sportsbook. To put into perspective just how fast this time is, we have to consider the fact that only five players in history have ever posted better. Kansas City Chiefs wideout Xavier Worthy broke the record in 2024 by running a Sonic the Hedgehog-like 4.21 seconds. That time is astonishing, and if you watched Worthy play at any point this season you know he is a step above the rest when it comes to turning on the jets.

The previous record holder was former Bengals ninth overall pick WR John Ross, with a time of 4.22 seconds back in 2017. Cornerback Kalon Barnes ran a 4.23 in 2022. WR Rondel Menendez rattled off a time of 4.24 seconds in 1999, which was a record that stood for close to a decade before RB Chris Johnson matched it in 2008. As you can see, players are getting faster each year, and that is a trend that is likely to continue in the future. The safe pick is to take “slower” at -140, and that will probably be the winning bet when the event wraps up. However, it would be a mistake to think there aren’t a handful of prospects out there capable of beating this time.

40-yard Dash Record to be Broken?

Yes (+475, DraftKings Sportsbook)
Yes (+800, FanDuel Sportsbook)

No (-800, DraftKings Sportsbook)
No (-1800, FanDuel Sportsbook)

As you can see, the prevailing thought is that Xavier Worthy’s record will likely stand for at least another year, but if you feel history will be made for a second straight year, you’ll want to fire at those +800 odds on “Yes” over on FD. If you believe the record is safe, you’ll get the better odds to bet “No” on DK at -800 but this is one of those spots where I’ll take the longshot or fade.

Player to Run Fastest 40-Yard Dash Time

FanDuel has odds for specific-player 40-yard dash times. Most players are at +2000 or longer odds, but there are a handful of players with more realistic chances and FD has priced them accordingly. They have also posted odds for fastest RB, fastest TE, etc., but not every market has those available at this time.

Arian Smith, WR, Georgia (+300)

The betting favorite to run the fastest time this year is UGA wideout Arian Smith. While he wasn’t the most productive wideout in college football by any stretch of the imagination, he was one of the fastest. In high school, he was a nationally ranked track athlete and long jump champion. He won a Class 2A-title in the 200-meter dash and ran track at Georgia until 2023. He was a first-team All-American 2021 and ran the 100-meter dash at a ridiculous time of 10.10 seconds.

His 100-meter times do rival and even surpass Xavier Worthy, but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee he will unseat him in the 40-yard dash. With that said, if the record is going to be broken so soon, Smith could very well be the one to do it.

Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas (+340)

The Longhorns are going to have a reputation for producing speedsters if yet another of their former receivers is able to etch his name in the annals of history. After Worthy broke the record last year, Bond posted to social media the words “4.20 next year.” In other words, he doesn’t lack confidence. Like other receivers at this event, Bond was a track champion in high school, winning the 100- and 200-meter titles. There is no doubt about his acceleration and overall speed, but I’m not sure I’m convinced he will be the fastest player at the event.

Darien Porter, CB, Iowa State (+750)

The offensive players tend to get the attention in this event, but Cyclones CB Darien Porter has a legitimate shot at running the best time this year. At the Reese’s Senior Bowl, Porter was clocked at 22.17 MPH, which made him the fastest player in that showcase. That ranks second fastest of the past eight years, behind Riq Woolen, who was clocked at 22.45 in 2022. Woolen went on to post a 4.26 40 at the combine, so there is merit to considering a bet on Porter here.

Jimmy Horn, WR, Colorado (+1200)

Multi-position star and Heisman winner Travis Hunter will get most of the attention, but it’s former teammate Jimmy Horn who may have a more realistic shot at running the fastest 40 time. Yet another track star on this list, he stood out in the 100, triple jump and long jump. Shrine Bowl director Eric Galko has frequently praised Colorado receivers this season, but he has been especially impressed with Horn, nominating him as one of the fastest combine participants that attended the East-West game.

Bhayshul Tuten, RB, Virginia Tech (+2600)

Hokies running back Bhayshul Tuten is an intriguing prospect and one of my favorite long shot bets of the event. He possesses a unique blend of physicality and speed that will surely translate at the next level. He averaged over 6 yards per carry in college and 28.2 yards per kick return. His elite quickness was on full display in a victory over Boston College back in October of 2024. In that 42-21 victory, Tuten rushed for 266 yards, which set the Hokies all-time single-game rushing record. He scored touchdowns of 83 and 61 yards in that matchup.

In high school, he registered a 4.32 40, and I would not be surprised at all to see him post a top three time this year. You can also bet Tuten at +300 to be the fastest running back in the 40-yard dash, which is only behind Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson at +170.

Best Bets

Slower than 4.255 seconds (-140)
Arian Smith to run fastest 40 time (+300)
Darien Porter to run fastest 40 time (+750)
