NFL DFS Hot Takes for Week 2

What a way to start the season! Two — two — subscribers won over $100k, largely on the back of Joe Mixon, who made an appearance in Week 1’s Hot Takes and led the RB position in GPP Score. It’s safe to say the GPP Scores are off to a roaring start, so it should come as no surprise that many of this week’s hot takes also follow them.

These takes are supposed to make you feel a little uncomfortable. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be hot takes! More importantly, if the plays were more comfortable, they’d come with more rostership. Each hot take can be thought of as a potential path to GPP glory. You can pick your favorite(s), build a lineup including as many of them as possible, or decide that I’ve lost my mind and do your own thing.

Week 2 NFL DFS Hot Takes

This week’s hot takes need some additional context. Everyone knows pass production was down in Week 1, but let’s talk about why that was the case. In short, teams are using more two-high coverages than ever before, leading to average depth of target tanking. Over the last few years, it’s been on a slow but steady decline. If Week 1 was any indication, the decline is going to be more drastic this season.

From a DFS perspective, this meant no flex players scoring 30 DK points in the opening main slate. Cooper Kupp, James Cook and Saquon Barkley have gotten there in island games, so it’s obviously still possible and still going to happen. This week’s hot takes will largely center around how this potentially new scoring landscape affects how we should be approaching each slate.
