We have five games on the NHL DFS slate for Friday with the puck drop set for 8:00 p.m. ET on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The following NHL DFS value plays can be rostered as one-offs or you can pair them up with their line mates. I tend to attack power-plays, but there are also solo plays that make a lot of sense for the cash game players out there. See my favorite values, plays, stacks and fades below.
If you’re looking for a larger breakdown, check out Fantasy Hockey Picks & Bets. It’s a five-day-per-week show and I host on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Rickard Rakell, W, Anaheim Ducks
($5.8k DraftKings | $6.3k FanDuel)
Rakell’s six-game point streak was halted in his most recent contest, but he’s still on quite the run as he enters with five goals and 12 points over his past seven games. He has 24 shots over that span and in a good spot to add to those totals. The Sharks have coughed up the second-most shots, fourth-most scoring chances, and the fourth-most high-danger chances at 5v5 per 60 minutes according to Natural Stat Trick. In addition, San Jose ranks third in shorthanded time per game (3.61) and sixth in shorthanded time on ice per game (5:52). I do feel this is going to be Trevor Zegras’ coming out party as the Sharks tend to bring out the best in opposing players. Isac Lunderstrom won’t likely get time on the power-play, but he’ll center Zegras and Rakell.
Tomas Hertl, C, San Jose Sharks
($3.9k DraftKings | $5.7k FanDuel)
Hertl’s expected to return to the lineup on Friday and he’s priced like a guy we haven’t seen since March 22nd. He has way too much upside for his cheap price tag on DraftKings and the matchup is great. The Ducks have allowed at least four goals in seven of their past 10 games. Tomas Hertl and Timo Meier make for an interesting duo in a game where I think we’ll see some goals scored. Anaheim has allowed the third-most high-danger chances and the seventh-most scoring chances at 5v5 per 60 minutes.
Nick Bjugstad, C, Minnesota Wild
($3.5k DraftKings | $4.2k FanDuel)
Nick Bjugstad was placed on a line with Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov in Minnesota’s last game, but he was on the fourth line at the morning skate. Whether or not he sticks there or not, he’s someone who I believe is trending up and yet not on anybody’s radar. He picked up a power-play assist in his last game on the first PP unit and he’s expected to maintain that role for now. Bjugstad wasn’t really getting power-play time, so this is a boost for his outlook. He has points in three of his past four games and six over his last nine games.
Kevin Shattenkirk, D, Anaheim Ducks
($3.9k DraftKings | $4.1k FanDuel)
I guess I’m all in on the Ducks Friday, although that doesn’t make me feel great, yet they are cheap enough where you can pair them with Edmonton or Colorado if you wish. It was a slow start to the season for Shattenkirk, but five of his 11 points on the season have come over his past three games. He has two goals, eight shots, and six blocks over that span.
