The Drew Brees era is officially over in New Orleans, and it is officially the Jameis Winston era. While Alvin Kamara and Cameron Jordan are still there, some see this as the start of a rebuilding era for the Saints. Week one brings a huge challenge, as Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and the rest of the Packers will try to start 1-0 in a season in which they have lofty expectations. Due to Hurricane Ida, the game has been moved to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, despite the Saints being the home team.

Latest Saints vs. Packers Odds

Looking for the latest odds for this matchup? Here they are, with the best prices from various sportsbooks showing first.

Opening Odds – Saints vs. Packers

After opening as 4 point favorites, the Packers remain the same 4-point favorite heading into week one of the season. Despite the Saints no longer having home field advantage, due to Hurricane Ida, the oddsmakers still see the Packers as favorites by just slightly over a field goal. The Saints are a tough team to judge, especially this early in the season, as Jameis Winston is one of the most perplexing players in the league. He is capable of winning games on his own, but he can also throw games away. His success and/or failure will likely tell the tale of the Saints season.

Quarterback Analysis – Jameis Winston vs. Aaron Rodgers

Drew Brees is gone, so Jameis Winston will step in a start at quarterback for the Saints. The last time we saw Jameis Winston as a starting quarterback in the league, he was busy breaking records, becoming the first QB to throw for 5,000+ yards and 30+ touchdowns while also throwing 30+ interceptions. The talent is there, but there are many more questions than answers for the Saints at quarterback. Keep in mind that Taysom Hill is still around, so expect Sean Payton to get him involved in the game as well.

While his future in Green Bay may be in question, there is no doubting who the present QB is in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers spent most of the offseason pondering his options, but he ultimately decided to come back to Green Bay for what may be one last ride. The talent is obviously still there, as he played his best football ever in his MVP year last season. Not only did the Packers finish 13-3, but Rodgers also led the league in QB rating, adjusted completion percentage, and Touchdown-to-Interception ratio. The Packers easily win the QB battle in this matchup.

Latest Saints Betting News & Info

Much of the offseason headlines focused on the quarterback battle between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill. While both players had their moments, an impressive preseason won Winston the job. Another player who had an impressive preseason was 2nd year wide receiver Marques Calloway. With Michael Thomas out for 6-8 weeks and Tre’Quan Smith banged up, Callaway burst onto the scenes in the preseason, highlighted by a week two performance where he was targeted by Winston five times, caught five passes for 104 yards and had a pair of impressive touchdowns. Look for Callaway to step up as the Saints WR1 to begin the season.

Latest Packers Betting News & Info

The Packers are positioned as well as any team to make a deep run into the postseason this season. Their offensive core of Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Jones, and Davante Adams is just about as scary as it gets. However, the real revelation for the Packers last season was their improved defense. Their secondary, behind cornerback Jaire Alexander, is one of the best in the league, and will make it tough on Jameis Winston in his first start in over a season.

Saints vs. Packers Betting Picks – NFL Week 1

With 77% of the public’s bets on the Packers, this appears to be a pretty lopsided game. It is easy to understand why the public feels this way, as the two teams appear to be going in opposite directions. Still, it is important to remember that the Saints still have a great defense and offensive line, and if Jameis Winston can figure it out, the Saints might have a really good season. The smart money in this game is on the under. These are two very good defenses going up against each other, and with Michael Thomas out for the Saints, the Packers probably won’t need to put up a ton of points to keep up. Expect a hard-nosed, low scoring game, with the Packers likely coming out on top.
