Davante Adams Could Force His Release

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt writes that New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams is unlikely to want to return in 2025 with the team parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and Adams' contract is structured in a way that would give him the power to ultimately force his release. Adams has a $38.25 million salary cap hit in 2025, although none of his $35.6 million salary is guaranteed. The expectation is that New York will cut or trade Adams and save $29.8 million in cap space while taking on $8.3 million in dead money. It's unclear where the 32-year-old veteran will end up, but it's possible he'll follow Rodgers to another team if Rodgers doesn't retire. Although the Jets couldn't turn things around after trading for Adams, he ended up finishing with his fifth straight 1,000-yard season despite playing in only 14 regular-season games.

Jets Could Move On From Davante Adams

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the New York Jets could move on from wide receiver Davante Adams. Rapoport noted that with the Jets and Aaron Rodgers expected to part ways, the team is unlikely to keep his longtime receiver on the roster as well. The Jets traded for Adams prior to their Week 8 tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his time with the Jets, Adams averaged a strong 77.6 yards per game with seven touchdowns. He saw 10.4 targets per game and brought in 6.1 passes per game. Despite the Jets falling short of expectations, Adams posted his fifth-straight 1,000-yard campaign. Even though Adams will be entering his age-32 campaign, he should still be viewed as a solid WR2 heading into the 2025 campaign, even if he is playing for a new team.

Tutu Atwell "Unlikely" To Return To Los Angeles

According to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com, wide receiver Tutu Atwell is unlikely to return to the Los Angeles Rams for the 2025 season. Atwell will hit the free-agent market but is not expected to pursue a reunion with the Rams. During his four-year tenure in Los Angeles, Atwell was typically deployed as a rotational piece in the wide receiver room. This past season, he set a career-high in yards (562) but did not find the back of the end zone. Atwell played in just under 40% of the team's offensive snaps and saw two or fewer targets in 10 of his games. The Rams could have a new wide receiver room in 2025 as the team is expected to pursue a trade for Cooper Kupp, and No. 3 wide receiver Demarcus Robinson will be a free agent. Atwell will likely find a new suitor and be deployed as a No. 3/No. 4 option that carries little fantasy value. If Atwell were to leave Los Angeles, Jordan Whittington and Tyler Johnson could have an increased role during the 2025 season.

Rams Likely To Restructure Matthew Stafford's Contract

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is expected to return for another season in 2025, but ESPN's Dan Graziano writes that the Rams will likely need to restructure Stafford's contract again. His current salary cap hit for 2025 is around $50 million, so the Rams will likely convert his salary into bonuses again to lower the cap hit and move Stafford's 2025 compensation into the range of a good starting QB. Although Stafford is now 37 and strictly a pocket passer, he ranked 12th in QBR (64.7) in 2024 and can still pick apart defenses with his strong arm. From all accounts, he appeared to be happy with the direction of the team, and multiple sources with the team don't believe drastic changes are coming this offseason. If the Rams do entertain trading Stafford, he'll be one of the most coveted signal-callers available.

Davante Adams Interested In Joining Chargers, Rams?

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes that New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams is intrigued by a potential return to the West Coast and would be open to joining the Los Angeles Chargers or Los Angeles Rams if he gets released this offseason. Fowler also puts the San Francisco 49ers in the conversation, as Adams grew up in Northern California. The Jets are going to need to address Adams' situation, as his $38.3 million salary cap hit is untenable. The three-time All-Pro wideout had 854 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games after the Jets acquired him from the Las Vegas Raiders last year, but his addition failed to turn the Jets offense around as a whole, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers may not play out his contract in New York. Adams still managed his fifth straight 1,000-yard season and would be an intriguing addition for the Chargers, Rams or 49ers.
