In his second season in the NFL in 2021, Jonathan Taylor led the league in rushing with 1,811 yards, 552 yards more than second-place Nick Chubb. Taylor’s 332 rushing attempts led the NFL last year and proved to everyone that he was one of the most electric weapons in all of football.
Looking forward to 2022, Taylor is expected to have another amazing season behind an improved Colt offensive line. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Taylor’s 2022 rushing yard prop is set at 1450.5 and his TD total is set at 13.5 rushing touchdowns.
Taylor amassed 1,169 rushing yards in his rookie season and improved to 1,811 the next. In 2020, Taylor had 11 rushing touchdowns, then led the NFL in 2021 with 18. Going into his third season, there’s a chance Taylor takes another major step forward and further solidifies himself as one of the top running backs in the whole NFL.
With Matt Ryan under center for the Colts next season, I do not anticipate Taylor getting many fewer carries than last year. Ryan should certainly sling the ball down the field more frequently, but Taylor will still be the focal point of the Colts’ offense in 2022.
Let’s dive into Jonathan Taylor’s 2022 prop bet lines.
Jonathan Taylor Prop Bets for 2022
(All Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook)
How Many Rushing Yards Will Jonathan Taylor Have in 2022?
(Over 1,450.5; -115)
The Colts had one of the worst pass-protecting offensive lines in football last season, so they had to rely on their second-year running back to produce. Taylor literally ran with the responsibility of being a workhorse running back and put up one of the most prolific rushing seasons in the past couple of years.
1,450.5 is a ton of rushing yards — this number was eclipsed by three rushers in the past two seasons, including Taylor in 2021. Looking at this season, I believe Taylor has the capability to eclipse this rushing total again.
The addition of Matt Ryan at quarterback will certainly allow the Colts to have a more balanced offensive attack next season, but this should not impact Taylor too much. Other than Michael Pittman, the Colts’ WR corps is unproven, and while Ryan can sling the rock, he needs to build trust with his receivers. When in doubt, I would expect the Colts’ offense to still defer to Taylor.
Taylor may see more loaded boxes when he is on the field next year, but he has the speed, elusiveness, and tackle-breaking skills to beat a heavy box. Taylor can make one cut, hit a hole, and take the football to the end zone. With a combination of a ton of touches, and his skillset, Taylor should go over this high rushing total next season.
How Many Rushing Touchdowns will Jonathan Taylor Have in 2022?
(Over 13.5; -115)
Taylor had 18 touchdowns on the ground last season, and DraftKings thinks that total will regress next season. There are a ton of factors that go into touchdown scoring, and there is a ton of variance season to season for touchdown totals, but I expect Taylor to eclipse this total.
Taylor is by far the best offensive weapon on the Colts, and their offensive game plan should still be built around his skill sets. Taylor has breakaway speed in the open field, so he can easily break off a few 20-plus-yard touchdown runs (he had 14 last year) and he can hit pay dirt more around the goal line.
Even with Nyheim Hines and Phillip Lindsay backing him up, I do not anticipate either of these players stealing too many touchdown opportunities from Taylor. Hines stole a few last season, but with Taylor’s ability to break off longer runs, I think 14 touchdowns will come easily to Taylor.
