Week 1 of the NFL preseason is here.
We have two matchups on Thursday’s NFL DFS slate, starting four straight days of preseason NFL action. I will list my favorite plays at each position while also providing you with a core to build around in your main lineups. The preseason info can be tough to find, but I will include all updated news with the NFL DFS channel on the FTN Discord as lock approaches. Let’s dive in!
Carolina Panthers
Jack Plummer, QB
Bryce Young will not play in this matchup against the Patriots and may not play in the entire preseason. I certainly don’t see any need for 36-year-old Andy Dalton to take snaps while injured, which leaves UDFA Jack Plummer from Louisville as the likely starter. I have little interest in Plummer, who played for Purdue, California and Louisville in college. Plummer has a great deep ball but struggles with intermediate accuracy. He brings nothing as a rusher and carried a meager 21:12 touchdown:interception ratio with the Cardinals last year. He is trying to win the practice squad spot behind Young and Dalton, so he has every reason to impress. However, he could also turn the ball over twice.
Jake Luton, QB
Luton is a 28-year-old journeyman who at least brings a huge arm. He has three career starts (with the Jaguars in 2020) but was just signed this week when Dalton suffered a quad injury. Hard to see Luton doing much with limited practices, but I do like him better than Plummer, simply because of experience, little rostership and the chance for a long touchdown pass.
Chuba Hubbard, RB
With rookie Jonathon Brooks still recovering from his ACL tear last year, Hubbard is the incumbent RB1 and certainly ahead of Miles Sanders. I don’t see Carolina risking an injury to Hubbard in the opening preseason game.
