Joshua Palmer Primed For WR1 Role With Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer appears in position to be the team's No. 1 target to begin 2024. After that on the depth chart, it appears to be an open competition between former first-rounder Quentin Johnston, rookie second-rounder Ladd McConkey, and veteran deep threat DJ Chark. Palmer is a bit of a WR4/5 sleeper pick in fantasy drafts this summer; he produced a solid 9.5 yards per target over 61 targets and 15.3 yards per reception across 38 catches for the Chargers in 2023. In LA's wide open receiving corps and with the most experience in this offense of the bunch, the 24-year-old former third-round pick out of Tennessee figures to be quarterback Justin Herbert's (foot) favorite target during the early going of the season.

Dawson Knox Sitting Out On Sunday

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (groin, rest) didn't suit up for Sunday's practice session. Head coach Sean McDermott said that this was a rest day for the veteran tight end. That being said, fantasy managers shouldn't be too concerned as Knox has been dealing with a groin issue as well. Knox is looking for a bounce back campaign after a rough 2023 season. He finished with 22 receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games last season. Before that, Knox had two straight seasons with 45-plus catches and over 500 yards each season. The Bills lost a few offensive contributors this offseason which could possibly lead to more targets for Knox. However, the arrival of Dalton Kincaid could continue putting Knox on the backburner.

Keon Coleman Continues To Impress At Training Camp

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman has had a promising training camp. More importantly, he continues to build chemistry with quarterback Josh Allen. With that said, Coleman continues to shine, with the Bills posting a video showing the rookie making an impressive catch during Sunday's session. Buffalo took Coleman with the No. 33 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft after amassing 115 catches for 1,506 yards and 19 touchdowns across three collegiate seasons. While the Bills have Curtis Samuel and Khalil Shakir, among others, fighting for the right to be the No. 1 option for Josh Allen, it appears Coleman is already at the top of the depth chart heading into Week 1.

Tyrell Shavers Could Crack Bills Roster

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Tyrell Shavers was an undrafted free-agent signing out of San Diego State last offseason, and according to Nick Wojton of the Bills Wire, he could be trending toward making the team's 53-man roster this season. "With a need for wide receivers, it was always likely that the "training camp darling" in 2024 was going to be a receiver. It is and it's Shavers," Wojton wrote. "[He] has made plays, leading to him getting reps with the first-team offense. He could be securing a roster spot already and Shavers is a name to watch when the preseason rolls around." The 24-year-old began his collegiate career at Alabama, meaning he was once viewed as a top talent and high-school recruit. While the odds are likely against him to make a fantasy impact in 2024, the Bills have just one receiver on the roster who has caught a pass from Josh Allen in a regular-season game (Khalil Shakir). If Shavers makes the opening roster, he can be viewed as a deep dynasty league stash, and his opportunities should be monitored early in the new campaign.

Ladd McConkey, Joshua Palmer Emerging In Three-Receiver Sets

The trio of Los Angeles Chargers wide reeceivers Ladd McConkey, Joshua Palmer, and DJ Chark have emerged to become the main receivers working in 11 personnel for the team through six training camp practices. McConkey has "flashed" in the slot for the Chargers, stringing together multiple quality outings so far in camp. Palmer looks to be the top receiver for the Chargers after ascending to the top of the depth chart following the departures of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. The fantasy buzz hasn't been the greatest at times for the Chargers, as they are expected to run the ball more with the addition of head coach Jim Harbaugh and former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman. However, McConkey and Palmer are the two Chargers' receivers with the highest fantasy draft capital, going in drafts in the middle rounds. With quarterback Justin Herbert throwing the ball, both McConkey and Palmer are WR3 candidates with upside.
