Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels is honing in on defense this season, with a bold goal in mind. "I have a big goal of trying to make the first-team All-Defense," Daniels stated during Hawks Media Day on Monday. Atlanta, which ranked 27th in defense last season, will welcome his focus. While the young guard has shown defensive potential, fantasy managers will hope he can boost his offensive production. He averaged 5.8 points in 22.3 minutes per game. His shooting struggles, including 31.1% from three-point range and 64.2% from the free-throw line, indicate that improving his offensive efficiency is essential for his development. At just 21 years of age, Daniels has time to refine his game and could be a sneaky draft pick with upside.
The Hawks acquired guard Dyson Daniels (along with Larry Nance Jr., EJ Liddell, and two first-round picks) from the Pelicans in exchange for Dejounte Murray. While the departure of Murray means Atlanta lost an All-Star-caliber superstar, the Hawks received an up-and-coming player in Daniels, who has shown flashes of promise since entering the league in 2022. He finished last season by averaging 5.8 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals. However, he was limited to 61 contests after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee, resulting in surgery. With that in mind, if Daniels gets consistent minutes and avoids the injury report, it's reasonable to assume he could at least double his scoring average from last season.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Dyson Daniels (knee) will play on Saturday against Boston. The 21-year-old had averaged 5.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals before going down with a knee injury that resulted in surgery. But after being on the shelf for over a month, he'll be back on the floor, although he may be limited in his first game back. At any rate, with Jose Alvarado (oblique) out, Daniels should see enough work to keep Jordan Hawkin off the floor, giving him some potential as a DFS value option.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Dyson Daniels (knee) appears ready to rejoin the lineup on Saturday versus Boston, as the team has listed him as probable on the injury report. The versatile guard hasn't played since Feb. 8, missing 21 games. However, Daniels returned to game action in the G League earlier in the week and should now also suit up for the Pelicans. The 21-year-old has averaged 5.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 21.9 minutes for the season. With Jose Alvarado (oblique) out of the lineup, Daniels will have an opportunity to pick up extra shifts off the bench, although his minutes might be monitored following his long absence.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Dyson Daniels (knee) will be out for a 21st straight game on Thursday versus Milwaukee, but he could be back in the lineup soon after playing in the G League. Daniels, who underwent meniscus surgery in February, had 22 points across 24 minutes in the Birmingham Squadron's 115-99 loss to the Oklahoma City Blue on Wednesday. The versatile guard has averaged 5.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 steals during his sophomore season with the Pelicans. His next chance to make a return to the NBA stage comes on Saturday versus Boston.
