Lonnie Walker IV Works Out With Kings

Free-agent guard Lonnie Walker IV was reportedly taking part in competitive workouts with players from the Sacramento Kings. He was among a group of four free agents looking to make their way onto an NBA roster this coming season. Walker was joined by Isaiah Thomas, Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Tony Bradley. Walker played in 58 games for the Brooklyn Nets last year and averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists across 17.4 minutes per game. He also shot 42.3% from the floor and 38.4% from beyond the arc. The six-year veteran could help an NBA team as a depth option, but he's unlikely to be a viable fantasy option unless he finds his way on a tanking team.

Tyrese Maxey Re-Ups With 76ers For Five Years

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey has committed himself long-term to the team. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Maxey has agreed in principle on a five-year, $204 million maximum contract extension with the 76ers. The 23-year-old lands himself a massive extension following a superb campaign that led to his first All-Star selection. Maxey boosted his scoring numbers by over five points per game to 25.9 and had career-highs across the board in rebounding (2.9), assists (6.2), and steals (1.0). He will be a huge piece for Philadelphia going forward, although the arrival of Paul George could mean fewer touches offensively for Maxey, which might hurt his fantasy value.

Paul George Declines Player Option

Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George declined his $48.7 million player option on Saturday. The veteran, who will officially enter unrestricted free agency, has meetings scheduled with teams with cap space. The Clippers will also be involved, although the team no longer has the option of an opt-in and trade scenario. The 34-year-old finished the 2023-24 campaign by averaging 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals. He also shot a career-high 41.3% from behind the arc. Without a doubt, George is one of the top free agents available, so any team that adds him enhances their chances of winning an NBA title. Despite his age, George could remain a top-25 fantasy option for at least a few more seasons.

Quentin Grimes Dealt To Dallas

Detroit Pistons guard Quentin Grimes will be moved to his third team in the same calendar year. As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pistons have agreed to trade him to the Dallas Mavericks for Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks. Grimes was moved to the Pistons from the New York Knicks before the trade deadline this year in the same deal that sent Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks to New York. Grimes is currently on an expiring deal, so it looks like the Mavericks made this move to shed salary, and it's unclear if Grimes will stay on the roster. This past season, he averaged 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game in 51 total appearances.

Kyle Lowry Expected To Re-Sign With 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Kyle Lowry is expected to return to the team for the 2024-25 campaign. Lowry is a free agent after completing a short-term deal with his hometown team. The Knicks and Clippers have reportedly kept tabs on him, but according to NBA insider Marc Stein, the 38-year-old is "widely" expected to re-sign with the 76ers. Lowry averaged 8.0 points and 4.6 assists in 28.4 minutes after moving to Philadelphia in February. The former All-Star is clearly past his best and only a deep-league asset in fantasy basketball at this point.
