Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is coming into one of his most important seasons yet as the front office has surrounded him with arguably the most talented supporting cast he's experienced. The former MVP said that he lost 25-to-30 pounds this off-season as he tries to stay healthier and enter a postseason without any ailments for the first time in his career. Before hurting his knee, Embiid was on pace to outperform his MVP season and averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 52.9% from the floor and 38.8% from beyond the arc. The issue was that he only appeared in 39 regular season games, but he did show some maturity in his game and some fight in their playoff series against the New York Knicks. Embiid should remain a top pick in fantasy drafts this season, but he always comes with added injury risk.

Following Paul George's departure to Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Clippers have a starter's spot open, and head coach Tyronn Lue expects to see multiple players competing for the role. The most obvious candidates to fill it are Derrick Jones Jr., Amir Coffey, and Norman Powell. A starting role always boosts a player's fantasy value. However, Jones Jr. wasn't very productive in the role during his stay in Dallas last season, averaging 8.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.5 minutes. Coffey had 11 starts with the Clippers last season and posted 11.8 points with 3.7 rebounds as a member of the first unit. Powell is a very valuable bench scorer but started three games in 2023-24, averaging only slightly more points than his season average of 13.9.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has officially agreed on a three-year extension that will keep him in Philadelphia through 2027-28 with a player's option for 2028-29. According to Adam Schefter, the three-year max extension is worth $192.9 million and it gives the 2023 MVP a total of $299.5 million in guaranteed money through the 2028-29 season. Since stepping on the floor for the Sixers in 2016, Embiid has been the key piece on both sides of the ball. Now that Daryl Morey and company have put a championship-or-bust roster around him, it's time for him to lead them to the promised land. As long as he's healthy, he should also remain one of the best fantasy basketball assets in the league. Last season, the big man averaged 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game across 39 appearances.

According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid might agree to a new contract "in the near future." The 2023 Most Valuable Player became eligible for an extension worth nearly $200 million in July. While it's tough to say for certain how this situation will go, it may be in Embiid's best interest to sign on the dotted line, considering his injury history over the years. If both sides can't come to an agreement, talks will get put on hold until next offseason. The 2014 No. 3 pick averaged a career-high 34.7 points with 11.0 boards, 5.6 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 2023-24. Yet, he was limited to 39 games due to injury. Without a doubt, Embiid's consistent ailments will cause his fantasy stock to dip heading into the regular season. But he could finish the season as the top overall fantasy producer if he can figure out how to stay on the floor and off the injury report.

Free agent guard Lonnie Walker IV is still on the hunt for a new team after spending last season with the Brooklyn Nets. According to Shams Charania, the six-year veteran is signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the reigning NBA champ Boston Celtics. Earlier in the week, Walker was seen working out with players from the Sacramento Kings in an informal workout, and now he has a chance to get on the roster with the Celtics. Walker averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while shooting .423/.384/.763. He hasn't been an everyday starter at any point in his career so far, so if he makes the team he'd likely be a depth option.
