San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb fired a complete-game shutout with six strikeouts in Wednesday night's victory over the visiting crosstown-rival Oakland Athletics at Oracle Park. Webb authored a stellar performance against a hapless Oakland lineup on Wednesday, scattering five hits and a lone walk en route to his eighth win of the campaign. It was a timely rebound showing for San Francisco's ace, who finishes the month of July with a weak 4.78 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 24 punchouts and 10 walks over 32 frames (five starts). Webb is slated to get the ball next in a soft draw in Wednesday's tilt against the hosting Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, where he will aim to stay on track on the heels of this dominant effort.

The San Francisco Giants recalled infield prospect Marco Luciano and catcher Blake Sabol from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. The Giants were fully expected to give Luciano another shot in the big leagues after trading outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler to the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. Luciano will serve as the DH and bat sixth in Tuesday's contest against the visiting Oakland Athletics and left-hander JP Sears. The Giants' No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, should see regular playing time the rest of the way in San Fran, making him worth a waiver-wire pickup in deep-mixed leagues for middle-infield depth. The 22-year-old was on fire recently on the farm and went 9-for-24 (.375) with two doubles, a triple and an RBI in 10 games earlier this year in the big leagues. The Dominican infielder is intriguing due to his raw power from the right side of the plate.

The San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Mark Canha from the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday in exchange for pitching prospect Eric Silva, according to a source. Canha will essentially be a right-handed-hitting outfielder that will help replace Jorge Soler, who was dealt to the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. The 35-year-old veteran doesn't have as much raw power as Canha, though, but he could also be an option at first base for the Giants, in addition to a corner-outfield spot and designated hitter. The 10-year big-league veteran hit a very pedestrian .231/.337/.350 with a below-average .687 OPS, seven home runs, 38 RBI, four stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 93 games for Detroit before the trade. Canha will continue to have a low fantasy ceiling as he returns to the Bay Area but should play regularly for the Gigantes.

San Francisco Giants shortstop prospect Marco Luciano is expected to be called up from Triple-A Sacramento soon now that the trade of outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler opened up the DH spot and created more options for manager Bob Melvin. The 22-year-old Luciano had quality plate appearances in a major-league stint in May but couldn't stick as a reliable defensive option at shortstop. Luciano was locked in of late on the farm, posting a .413 on-base percentage while hitting six homers in July. He's walked 18 times and struck out 18 times this month. The Giants also plan to rotate outfielder Michael Conforto and, when healthy, infielder Wilmer Flores (knee) in the DH slot. Luciano had a .986 OPS in 10 games with San Fran earlier this year and is a waiver-wire consideration for those seeking middle-infield depth in deep-mixed leagues.
