Giants Acquire Mark Canha From The Tigers

The San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Mark Canha from the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday in exchange for pitching prospect Eric Silva, according to a source. Canha will essentially be a right-handed-hitting outfielder that will help replace Jorge Soler, who was dealt to the Atlanta Braves on Monday night. The 35-year-old veteran doesn't have as much raw power as Canha, though, but he could also be an option at first base for the Giants, in addition to a corner-outfield spot and designated hitter. The 10-year big-league veteran hit a very pedestrian .231/.337/.350 with a below-average .687 OPS, seven home runs, 38 RBI, four stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 93 games for Detroit before the trade. Canha will continue to have a low fantasy ceiling as he returns to the Bay Area but should play regularly for the Gigantes.

Mark Canha Back For The Tigers

Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha (wrist) is back in the team's starting lineup on Friday against the hosting Toronto Blue Jays for the start of the second half of the season, serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth against Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt. Canha missed the final game of the first half of the season on Sunday due to a right-wrist injury but healed up nicely over this week's All-Star break. The 35-year-old veteran right-handed hitter will return to a .228/334/.341 slash line with a below-average .676 OPS, six home runs, 34 RBI, four steals and 36 runs scored in 290 at-bats in his first year in Detroit. Canha has gone 5-for-22 (.227) with two doubles and two RBI in seven games in the month of July and hasn't homered since May 11.

Mark Canha Hopes To Be Full-Go By Friday

The Detroit Tigers have no immediate plans to put first baseman/outfielder Mark Canha (wrist) on the 10-day injured list. Canha said he's going to rest and do treatment during the All-Star break next week and hopes to be a full-go on Friday for the start of the second half of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays. Wrist soreness forced Canha out of Saturday's game against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers early, and the 35-year-old veteran will not play in Sunday's series finale. His injury comes at a good time with the All-Star break coming next week, so hopefully he will not need to miss any more time beyond Sunday's game. Canha will end the first half in his first year in Motown with a .228/.334/.341 slash line, six home runs, 34 RBI, four steals and 36 runs scored in 84 games played.
