2024 Team Stats

San Francisco Giants catcher Tom Murphy (back) has started doing light rehab activities. Murphy was dealing with back spasms in camp, but an MRI revealed a more serious issue. The veteran backstop is dealing with a middle-back disk herniation. The fact Murphy is only beginning his rehab process means he probably won't be ready to play by Opening Day. Patrick Bailey is expected to basically play everyday, so Sam Huff might end up making the squad as the backup until Murphy is ready to play.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos (oblique) is going to throw from 120 feet away on Friday. Ramos continues to work his way back from a mild oblique strain. It's also worth noting that Ramos is going to hit in the batting cage again on Friday. It's not shocking to see the Giants bringing Ramos along slowly this early into camp. The hope is that Ramos is going to be fine in time for Opening Day. He's expected to be a significant part of the lineup after his breakout season in 2024. Ramos slashed .269/.322/.469 with 22 home runs and 72 RBI across 121 games last season.

San Francisco Giants infielder Tyler Fitzgerald (back) will make his spring training debut against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. Fitzgerald has been brought along slowly after suffering a back injury early in camp. Luckily, it wasn't a major issue and it looks like Fitzgerald is going to be fine going forward. The expectation is that Fitzgerald is going to be the primary option at second base to begin the season. He slashed .280/.334/.497 with 15 home runs and 34 RBI across 96 games with the Giants last season. He'll be someone to keep an eye on his fantasy leagues, assuming he's able to keep up that kind of production.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos (oblique) hit off the tee and soft toss in the batting cages at camp on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser. Ramos was originally scheduled to resume swinging on Thursday after dealing with a sore oblique early in spring training. It's a good sign that the 25-year-old started swinging a day early, and barring a setback, he'll be ready in plenty of time for Opening Day in late March. Ramos should be able to make his Cactus League debut by early next week. The Puerto Rican outfielder should play every day for the Giants in 2025 after finishing second on the team in home runs (22) and making the All-Star team for the first time by slashing .269/.322/.469 in 121 games played. The former first-rounder did deal with plantar fasciitis, though, which is a recurring issue for most players, but Ramos if a fine No. 4 outfield target in fantasy drafts.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray is reportedly adding a changeup to his repertoire. The lefty is said to have borrowed the grip from last year's AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal after communicating with him this offseason and results so far have been promising. The 33-year-old pitched two innings in Tuesday's 7-5 Cactus League loss to the Athletics, allowing no runs on one hit and zero walks while striking out three, including getting some whiffs on the new changeup. Ray made his way back from Tommy John surgery in July of last season, making seven starts before missing the rest of the year due to a hamstring strain. Although the 4.70 ERA and the 11.6 percent walk rate weren't good, the veteran still demonstrated strong strikeout stuff, posting a 33.3 percent K% with 43 strikeouts in 30 2/3 IP. Fully healthy and armed with a new pitch, the former Cy Young winner has a chance to be a sneaky value pick with an NFBC ADP of 165, as RotoBaller ranks him at 150 overall.
