Tyler Locklear Goes Deep Twice On Friday

Seattle Mariners first base prospect Tyler Locklear went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double on Friday evening. Locklear was recently sent back down to Triple-A after the Mariners acquired Justin Turner at the trade deadline. Locklear struggled through his first look at the major leagues with a .156/.224/.311 line. However, at Triple-A this season, the former second-round selection has posted a .273/.373/.500 line. Locklear is a name to keep an eye on in deeper AL-only formats this summer, as he could earn another look at the major leagues in the stretch run.

Tyler Locklear Demoted To Triple-A

Seattle Mariners first base prospect Tyler Locklear was demoted to Triple-A after the Mariners acquired Justin Turner from the Toronto Blue Jays. Turner should be expected to split time at first base and serve as the designated hitter. Locklear is considered the sixth-best prospect in the Seattle system on MLB.com. The VCU product has gotten two brief stints at the major league level this season and held an overall .156/.224/.311 line with two home runs and one stolen base. The 23-year-old could get another look at the big league level in the stretch run as he has already held his own at the top level of the minors with a .264/.374/.455 slash line this summer.

Tyler Locklear Recalled And Starting On Tuesday

The Seattle Mariners recalled infield prospect Tyler Locklear from Triple-A Tacoma, and he's starting at first base and batting sixth for the M's on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano. Locklear, the club's No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has an opportunity to carve out regular playing time at the cold corner in Seattle now that Ty France is no longer on the roster. The 23-year-old right-handed hitter went just 6-for-30 (.200) in his first 11 big-league games earlier this year but also had two home runs, a double and three RBI while fanning 12 times. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has excellent raw power, making him intriguing in deep-mixed leagues for those in need of some pop down the stretch. Locklear had an .887 OPS at two minor-league levels for the Mariners this year, and they're hoping he'll help boost their offense in the coming weeks and months.
