Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (knee) continues to rehab and has said he's targeting the end of July for a return, but with no specific date. The three-time American League MVP is swinging the bat well but still needs to do outfield work. "I'm pretty sure it's going to be pretty soon," Trout said. The 32-year-old 11-time All-Star is recovering from surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee but is apparently making good progress. The Angels certainly won't rush him back into the fold in another lost season, but at worst, it sounds as though Trout will be back by early August. The future Hall of Famer was hitting just .220 (24-for-109) at the time of his injury in late April, but it had come with 10 home runs and six stolen bases in just 29 games. Trout has become injury-prone on the wrong side of 30, but he's still a must-start fantasy asset when he's healthy.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (knee) hit soft toss on the field before Monday's series opener against the visiting Texas Rangers and said he should progress to batting practice in a few days. Trout also jogged on the field for the first time on Monday. The running progression is the most important part of his recovery from surgery on his left meniscus. He will continue to build up daily and believes he'll be back in late July. More specifically, Trout took 30 swings and jogged with no pain. He's been running straight lines right now and has also been pain-free when swinging. The next step will be changing direction while running. The 32-year-old perennial All-Star has been out since May, and the Angels aren't going to rush him back amidst another lost season, so fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if we don't see Trout come off the injured list until August. He had 10 homers in 126 plate appearances before his injury but was also hitting just .220.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (knee) has started running on a treadmill, according to manager Ron Washington. Trout also hit on the field before the team's Fourth of July game against the division-rival Oakland Athletics on Thursday. Running had been a hurdle that Trout needed to clear in his rehab from surgery in early May for a torn meniscus, so it's a significant step for the three-time American League MVP. Trout still has a ways to go before he's able to return to the Angels' lineup, but if he can avoid any setbacks with his knee, he's predicted that he could be ready to come off the injured list in late July. The 32-year-old is obviously still a must-start in all fantasy lineups when he's healthy, but injuries have taken a toll on Trout in recent seasons. He was hitting just .220 (24-for-109) before his injury, but with 10 home runs and six stolen bases.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout (knee) is progressing from knee surgery, yet there remains no timetable for his return from the injured list. Trout said he is "feeling really good" and "relieved" as he is close to running and hitting in the cages. He is currently playing catch and jogging on the Alter-G Treadmill. Before being placed on the injured list on April 30, Trout slashed .220/.345/551 with 10 homers, 14 RBI, 17 runs scored, and six steals. He did say he would be "disappointed" if he isn't back by the end of July, something fantasy managers would feel in unison. Patience continues to be the watchword on Trout's actual return. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Trout in all leagues as the superstar outfielder aims for a July return.
