Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran doubled his spring hit total in an 8-5 Grapefruit League win over the Twins on Friday. The 27-year-old came into the game with three hits, none for extra bases, and finished the game with three more hits which included a double and a home run. The lefty also had four RBI and two runs scored. He's yet to steal a base in Grapefruit League action but is now 6-for-21 (.286) in the spring and will look to build some momentum heading into the season. RotoBaller is bullish on the speedster, ranking him at 128 overall, well ahead of his 164 NFB ADP.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran (foot), who was removed from Tuesday's Grapefruit League game early against the Tampa Bay Rays due to an apparent foot injury, is fine and will be back in the lineup on Thursday. "He's OK. His ankle is a little bit tight but that's it. He'll play on Thursday," manager Alex Cora said. The 27-year-old had surgery last year on a toe on the same foot he injured on Tuesday, so some people were fearing it was related to that injury. Turns out it wasn't, so Duran dodged a bullet and should be good to go for Opening Day. The left-handed-hitting outfielder broke out in his first full major-league season in 2023 by hitting .295/.346/.482 with an .828 OPS, eight home runs, 40 RBI and 24 steals in 102 games played. Duran has plenty of appeal as a No. 3 fantasy outfielder, but his power upside and on-base abilities are still question marks.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Tampa Bay Rays with what appeared to be a foot injury. The 27-year-old was seen flexing his left foot, the same foot that he had surgery on this offseason, during his final at-bat of the afternoon before departing the contest. Duran enjoyed a breakout 2023 season as he hit .295 with eight home runs, 34 doubles, 24 stolen bases, and an .828 OPS across 102 games. His season was cut short due to a left big toe injury. His fantasy stock has increased significantly as he is projected for 13 home runs and 28 stolen bases in the 2024 season but fantasy managers would be wise to note that his .319 xwOBA was well below his .354 wOBA in the 2023 season.
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that outfielder Jarren Duran (toe) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday as the designated hitter. The Red Sox are taking it slow with Duran after he had surgery last August to fix the flexor tendon in his left big toe, but he will make his debut heading into the weekend. If healthy, the 27-year-old will be an everyday starter in Boston's outfield after breaking out in 2023 before his toe injury. The left-handed hitter slashed .295/.346/.482 with an .828 OPS, eight home runs, 40 RBI, 24 stolen bases and 46 runs scored in 332 at-bats. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much, too soon, but Duran is at least an excellent source of speed as a No. 3 outfielder in mixed leagues for 2024.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran (toe) is not going to play in Grapefruit League games until March 1, as he's still recovering from his toe surgery last August in which he had the flexor tendon in his left big toe repaired. Duran is believed to be fully recovered from his surgery, but the Red Sox aren't going to push their starting outfielder early in spring training action. If the 27-year-old isn't starting in center field, which is unlikely, he'll be a starter in a corner-outfield spot for Boston in 2024. Duran should be ready to roll by Opening Day in late March. The former seventh-round pick improved drastically in 2023 with a .295/.346/.482 slash line with an .828 OPS, eight home runs, 40 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 102 games. The power might take more time to develop, but Duran is certainly worth rostering as your No. 3 outfielder due to his speed.
