Tyler O'Neill Shut Down After Suffering Setback

The Baltimore Orioles pulled outfielder Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) off his Triple-A rehab assignment on Saturday, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. He received an injection in his ailing left AC joint and will be shut down for approximately one week. O'Neill went to the 10-day injured list with a shoulder impingement on May 18. He had made progress in his recovery until he began to feel soreness earlier this week. After this latest development, it's clear the 29-year-old won't make an imminent return to the majors. O'Neill pounded 31 home runs with the Boston Red Sox last season, leading the Orioles to hand him a three-year, $49.5 million guarantee in free agency. It hasn't worked out so far. O'Neill has been on the IL twice (once for neck soreness) and has batted just .188/.280/.325 line with two homers in 93 plate appearances. He won't be able to improve on those numbers for the foreseeable future.

Tyler O'Neill Dealing With More Shoulder Soreness

MASN's Roch Kubatko reports that Baltimore Orioles outfielder Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) is getting a few days of rest on his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk as he works through left-shoulder soreness. Thursday will be O'Neill's second straight day off with the Tides. In the 29-year-old's three rehab games, he's gone 4-for-10 at the plate. He began his rehab assignment as a designated hitter but has played in right field his last two starts. O'Neill landed on the 10-day injured list a month ago with a left-shoulder impingement, and it's not a good sign that he's still having issues with it. The oft-injured outfielder should have a regular role in Baltimore's outfield when he recovers, but he was hitting just .188 (15-for-80) with two home runs, 10 RBI and 27 strikeouts in 93 trips to the plate over 24 games at the time of his injury.

Tyler O'Neill to Start Rehab Assignment This Weekend

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, according to The Baltimore Banner's Andy Kostka. O'Neill is expected to join Triple-A Norfolk as he wraps up his rehab from a left-shoulder impingement. Barring a setback for the oft-injured 29-year-old outfielder, O'Neill could rejoin the big-league roster at some point next week. The Canadian has an enticing power profile after hitting 30-plus home runs for the second time in his career in 2024 with Boston, but he also continues to battle nagging injuries and was slashing just .188/.280/.325 with a career-worst .605 OPS with two homers, 10 RBI and 27 strikeouts in 93 trips to the plate in his first 24 games with the O's before getting injured. O'Neill figures to play regularly when he returns from the IL.
