The Boston Red Sox announced on Tuesday that they reinstated rookie right-hander Richard Fitts (pectoral) from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-hander Zack Kelly to Triple-A Worcester after Monday's game in a corresponding move. The team also reinstated left-hander Zach Penrod (elbow) from the 60-day IL and optioned him to Worcester. Fitts is starting on Tuesday in Milwaukee against the Brewers, an offense that ranks 25th in the league with a .664 OPS. In his only minor-league rehab start, Fitts threw only 38 pitches over three innings, so despite the plush matchup on the road, Fitts will probably be on a quick hook on Tuesday in his first game back after missing six weeks with a pectoral strain. In his three starts before his injury, Fitts had a decent 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 13 punchouts and five walks in 17 innings pitched.

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Richard Fitts (pectoral) is scheduled to start his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Worcester, weather permitting. Because Fitts has been out over a month with a strained pectoral muscle, he will most likely require at least a handful of rehab starts on the farm before Boston considers activating him from the injured list. Although he did well in his first three starts at the big-league level in 2025 before his injury, the 25-year-old won't be guaranteed a stable rotation spot when he's fully healthy. Fitts went 0-2 with a 3.18 ERA (3.97 FIP) and 1.12 WHIP with 13 strikeouts and five walks in his 17 innings. He has so far limited hard contact at the major-league level after debuting in 2024, but Fitts' 14.2% strikeout rate leaves a lot to be desired in fantasy.

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Richard Fitts (pectoral) has been ramping up his activities and could begin a rehab assignment next week. Fitts has been sidelined due to a pectoral strain for over a month. That being said, Fitts could require a few rehab starts before rejoining the Red Sox rotation. The Red Sox could use the help with Tanner Houck (elbow) landing on the injured list. Fitts threw five shutout innings during the game he got injured, but he wasn't great before that. He could be worth a look in deep leagues once he's back on the mound for the Red Sox.
