Chicago White Sox middle infielder Brooks Baldwin, outfielder Travis Jankowski and second baseman Nick Maton have all made the Opening Day roster. Prospect Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth will start in the minors, so the White Sox plan on mixing and matching at shortstop to begin the season. Jacob Amaya is probably the favorite for most of the playing time at the 6, but the 24-year-old Baldwin should serve in a utility infield role. He hit just .211 with two homers, eight RBI and four steals in 33 games in his major-league debut in 2024. Jankowski, 33, latched on with the Pale Hose after being cut by the Cubs in spring training. With Mike Tauchman (hamstring) starting on the injured list, he could see some starts in the outfield against right-handers, but Jankowski has little fantasy upside. Maton, 28, had a strong spring and will serve as middle-infield depth to begin the 2025 campaign.

In addition to prospect Colson Montgomery, Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz mentioned Brooks Baldwin, Chase Meidroth and Josh Rojas as options to play shortstop in 2025. Baldwin made his big-league debut in 2024 for the Pale Hose and went 24-for-114 (.211) with two homers, eight RBI and four steals in only 33 games. The 24-year-old also has plenty of experience at second base and could be used in the outfield in a pinch. Rojas has played 44 career games at the 6, 282 at third base and 150 at the keystone. Baldwin hit .330 with eight homers and 17 steals in 82 games at Double-A and Triple-A last year before being called up to Chicago. In addition to suffering a wrist injury, he looked overmatched at the plate in his first taste of the Show. He could open the year as the team's starting shortstop, but he'd just be keeping the spot warm for Montgomery.

Chicago White Sox second baseman/shortstop Brooks Baldwin (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist sprain. In a corresponding move, the White Sox recalled infielder Bryan Ramos from Triple-A Charlotte. The 24-year-old came off the bench on Tuesday evening after sitting out the previous seven games but will now sit out for at least the next ten days. Since joining the major leagues in mid-July, Baldwin has posted a mere .211 AVG with only eight extra-base hits. Fantasy managers should expect Lenyn Sosa and Nicky Lopez to serve as the everyday second baseman and shortstop on the Southside down the stretch. Both Sosa and Lopez have been unable to produce consistently this summer and are not worth adding in standard leagues.
