Giants Option Brett Wisely, Grant McCray To Triple-A

The San Francisco Giants optioned second baseman Brett Wisely and outfielder Grant McCray to Triple-A Sacramento. Wisely, 25, was unable to win a utility role on the Opening Day roster despite hitting .295 (13-for-44) with four doubles, a homer, six RBI, two steals and four runs scored in 23 Cactus League games this spring. He has displayed solid plate discipline and nice speed in the minors, and Wisely should be back up in the big leagues at some point in 2025 after hitting .238 with four homers and 31 steals in 91 games for the Gigantes in 2024. McCray, 24, will open the year in the minors with Jung Hoo Lee overcoming a back injury that slowed him down in camp. The left-handed hitter will be in a platoon situation, at best, if he's back in the big leagues this year. The former third-rounder in 2019 will need to lower his high strikeout rates to find any kind of sustained success in the majors.

Brett Wisely Could Have Inside Track On Bench Job

San Francisco Giants infielder Brett Wisely could have the inside track on a bench job in spring training due to the fact that the team already has a plethora of right-handed infield bats, MLB.com's Maria Guardado writes. Wisely has that going for him, but Casey Schmitt and Osleivis Basabe both offer just as much defensive versatility and could force their way onto the Opening Day roster if they impress during spring training. The 25-year-old Wisely has showed very little offensively in the Bay Area in his first two big-league seasons, slashing .218/.263/.320 with a weak .582 OPS, six home runs, 39 RBI, four stolen bases and 35 runs scored in 403 plate appearances over 142 games played. At best, Wisely should be considered a decent middle-infield glove option for the Giants off the bench, and he can also fill in at center field in a pinch.

Brett Wisely Drives In Two On Friday

San Francisco Giants shortstop Brett Wisely had a productive evening in his team's 7-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Wisely went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run, and two RBI to help propel his team to victory. The 25-year-old is putting together a solid season for the Giants, hitting .286 with 10 doubles, three homers, 16 runs, 18 RBI, and a stolen base over 140 at-bats. While he isn't offering much outside of batting average for fantasy, he is at least showing potential moving forward.
