James Wood Scratched From Saturday's Lineup

Washington Nationals top prospect James Wood (wrist) was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals after his bat handle hit his right wrist on a check-swing Friday. According to Nationals manager Davey Martinez, Woods is fine, and the team wanted to give him a day off. "He feels totally fine," said Martinez. The 21-year-old was removed from the lineup for precautionary reasons and took batting practice on Saturday. Woods has been lights out this spring, slashing .324/.457/.649 with three home runs, five RBI, and 12 runs scored over 17 games this spring. Woods has an NFBC ADP of 446 but is worth a late-round flier in most redraft leagues due to his massive upside.

Miguel Vargas Optioned To Triple-A

The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned second baseman/outfielderMiguel Vargasto Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday. Vargas is currently in South Korea with the team but won't be active in the Seoul Series against the San Diego Padres. Vargas was not likely to claim a starting position with Los Angeles this season after being moved from second base into the outfield, pitting him up against the newly acquiredTeoscar Hernandezin left field. The 24-year-old had not been performing well in spring training, hitting for just a .192 batting average and a .661 OPS in 26 at-bats. Vargas' impact was expected to be minimal for fantasy managers, and he'll need a lot to go right to make an impact on a major league roster this season.

Gabriel Moreno Expected Back In The Lineup On Sunday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (back) is expected to return to the lineup for Sunday's spring game against the Los Angeles Angels. Moreno sat out the last few games due to lower-back tightness. The 24-year-old is slashing .235/.350/.471 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored over seven games this spring. He is Arizona's starting catcher and is a top-12 catcher heading into fantasy drafts. Moreno slashed .284/.339/.408 with seven home runs, 50 RBI, 33 runs, and six stolen bases over 111 games in 2023. With an NFBC ADP of 154 in March, Moreno is a solid option and is ninth out of all catchers in the latest RotoBaller consensus rankings.

Eury Perez Dealing With Elbow Soreness, Set To Undergo Imaging

The Miami Marlins announced starting pitcherEury Perez (elbow) is set to undergo imaging and testing on his throwing elbow in the coming days. Perez was pulled from his start Wednesday after experiencing discomfort from a broken fingernail. He started to experience elbow discomfort on Thursday. Part of the 20-year-old's diagnostic process will be to meet with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister in Texas. Perez was set to be a vital part of the Marlins' rotation, projected for 161 strikeouts, a 3.13 ERA, and a 1.17 WHIP. After a promising 2023, Perez and the Marlins will certainly be hopeful that testing and imaging will reveal as little damage as possible as Miami's current rotation is decimated. Fantasy managers will have to wait for the imaging results on Perez's sore elbow. The injury jeopardizes his status for Opening Day, and he could miss the start of the season.

Cody Bradford Cracks The Rangers' Rotation

Texas Rangers pitcher Cody Bradford will begin the season in the starting rotation, according to general manager Chris Young. Young added that the team isn't likely to add to its staff, seemingly ruling out bringing back left-hander Jordan Montgomery. Bradford made eight starts and appeared in 20 games for the Rangers in the 2023 season, working to a 5.30 ERA in that time. However, he also posted a much better 4.14 SIERA while he put forth a healthy 16.7% K-BB% on the back of a tiny 5.1% BB%. He won't provide big strikeout numbers but he has a history of excellent control throughout his minor-league career. He remains a low-end fantasy option even as part of a quality Rangers club coming off a World Series title.
