Tim Anderson Hits First Homer Of Spring Monday

Miami Marlins shortstop Tim Anderson hit his first home run of the spring in Monday's 1-0 Grapefruit League win over the Mets. Anderson hit a second-inning fastball from Tylor Megill over the right-field fence for the only run of the game. The 30-year-old is hitting .211 with no stolen bases in 19 spring at-bats. He will be looking to start anew with the Marlins, as injuries and poor performance stymied his fantasy value over the past several seasons with the White Sox.

Lance McCullers Jr. Targeting A Late-June Return

Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (forearm) is targeting a "late June, early July" return. He underwent flexor tendon surgery in June, which had a 13-15 month recovery. His goal is to aim for that 13th-month timeline. McCullers hasn't pitched at any level since Game 3 of the 2022 World Series. The 30-year-old posted a 2.27 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 50:22 K: BB across 47 2/3 innings in 2022. McCullers will continue to rehab, but it's unclear when he will be cleared and become an integral part of Houston's rotation again. For fantasy leagues with an injured list spot, managers in deep leagues can stash McCullers on the IL and hope he returns to action around the All-Star break.

Aaron Hicks Scratched From Monday's Lineup With Body Soreness

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Aaron Hicks was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Rangers due to body soreness. Willie Calhoun replaced him in the lineup. The Angels described Hicks' injury as "body soreness" but didn't go into further detail on what the veteran was dealing with. Hicks is considered day-to-day. He signed a one-year contract with the Angels in January, providing the team with outfield depth. Hicks slashed .253/.353/.383 with eight home runs, 36 RBI, 44 runs, and six stolen bases over 312 plate appearances in 2023. The former New York Yankee will play all three outfield spots for the Angels and serve occasionally as the team's designated hitter. With an NFBC ADP well past 600, Hicks is mainly an option in AL-Only leagues.

J.D. Davis Released By The Giants

The San Francisco Giants have released infielder J.D. Davis on Monday. San Francisco signed free agent third baseman Matt Chapman to a three-year, $54 million contract, making Davis expendable. Davis went unclaimed after the Giants placed him on waivers Saturday and will become a free agent. The Giants will pay a small portion of his $6.9 million contract. Davis slashed .248/.325/.413 with 18 home runs, 69 RBI, 61 runs, and a stolen base over 544 plate appearances in 2023. The 30-year-old will look to latch onto an MLB team in search of first base or third base help. Now a free agent, Davis is mainly an option in deep-league formats.

Corey Seager Takes Light Swings On Monday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (groin) took some light swings on Monday. He underwent sports hernia surgery in January, and his status for Opening Day is in doubt. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy says he'll know more about his Opening Day status next week. The 29-year-old had an impressive 2023 season, slashing .327/.390/.623 with 33 home runs, 96 RBI, 88 runs, and two stolen bases over 536 plate appearances. He could have easily surpassed 100 runs and 100 RBI had he not missed time due to thumb and hamstring injuries. Seager has an NFBC ADP of 25, and it appears he will likely avoid the injured list, making him a top-five shortstop and a solid pick at his current ADP.
