Chicago White Sox right-handed reliever John Brebbia (calf) is throwing live batting practice in camp on Wednesday. Brebbia suffered a right-calf strain early in camp and has not appeared in a Cactus League game yet because of it. However, the 33-year-old veteran is working his way back and could still be ready for Opening Day on March 28. When healthy, Brebbia has a chance to close out games for the White Sox this year, although he could have to share ninth-inning duties with the likes of Deivi Garcia, Jordan Leasure and Dominic Leone in a not-so-pretty closer-by-committee approach. Brebbia only has two career saves (back in 2018), although he pitched well out of the San Francisco Giants' bullpen the last two years, posting a 3.47 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 32 walks and 101 K's in 106 1/3 innings.

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole (elbow) will be out at least one to two months and will head to Los Angeles for an appointment with noted sports surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache. None of the team's doctors or ElAttrache have detected a tear in Cole's UCL, but there's enough concern about the ligament that ElAttrache has suggested an in-person visit. The defending American League Cy Young winner will be out for an "extended period," but for now the hope is that he'll have a chance to return in May or early June. The 33-year-old has shown excellent velocity and command this spring, but his recovery has been an issue, and he felt a twinge in his elbow after a Grapefruit League start. Even if Cole avoids Tommy John surgery, this news is a big hit for his high-end fantasy value and for the top of the Yankees' rotation to begin the 2024 season.

San Diego Padres infielder Graham Pauley's name is on a bus list with players that are definitely going to Korea for the team's two-game opening series against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers on March 20-21. Regular third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is going to be eased in at designated hitter early in the year after having offseason surgery, so the 23-year-old Pauley could see occasional starts for the Friars at the hot corner early on. Pauley is getting the opportunity after hitting .308/.393/.539 with 23 homers, 94 RBI and 22 steals in 127 games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio last year. The team's No. 11 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, should be on the radar of fantasy managers in NL-only leagues.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (knee) is back in the team's Grapefruit League lineup on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, serving as the designated hitter and batting third for the team. Guerrero has missed spring training games of late due to both knee and finger injuries, but he's fine now and should return to the field by this weekend. The 24-year-old should be just fine for the start of the 2024 regular season by the end of the month. Although fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting Vladdy Jr. to return to his 2021 levels -- when he hit .311/.401/.601 with a league-high 48 home runs and 111 RBI -- he can still serve as a top-five fantasy first baseman in a hitter-friendly home park and a strong Blue Jays lineup.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Rob Refsnyder (toe) suffered a fractured left pinkie toe when he was hit by a pitch in a Grapefruit League game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. The Red Sox haven't put a timetable on Refsnyder's recovery from his fractured toe, but with Opening Day just several weeks away, the 32-year-old veteran outfielder is almost certain to begin the 2024 regular season on the 10-day injured list, at the very least. When healthy, Refsnyder will serve as outfield depth in Beantown, making him only useful for bench depth in AL-only fantasy leagues. Refsnyder's injury to begin the season should open the door for young center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela to make the team's Opening Day roster, and he could be a lineup regular.
