Tyler O'Neill Dealing With Calf Tightness, Should Return Monday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill is dealing with tightness in his calf, so he will not make the trip to Santo Domingo for this weekend's Dominican Republic Series matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays. He is, however, expected to play Monday when the team returns to Fort Myers for a game against the Pirates. At least this means his status for Opening Day shouldn't be in doubt, but for managers who were hoping for a sneaky under-the-radar power-speed player late in drafts, it's certainly a situation to monitor. One of the Sox's offseason acquisitions, O'Neill is 4-for-14 (.286) with a home run and a stolen base through six spring games.

Eloy Jimenez Stays Hot, Mashes First Spring Home Run Wednesday

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Eloy Jimenez continued his hot spring on Wednesday in a 12-9 Cactus League loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jimenez went 2-for-2 with a walk, a single, and his first home run of the spring, driving in two runs and scoring in all three plate appearances. The powerful righty now sits alone atop the spring leaderboard in hits with 12, with five multi-hit efforts in eight games played. The 27-year-old has worked with hitting coach Marcus Thames on his swing and it appears to be paying off. It's also a contract year for Jimenez so there's extra motivation, for him and the White Sox, as he could also be a potential trade chip.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Shelled In Second Spring Start

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto wasn't nearly as sharp in his second spring start, a 12-9 Cactus League win over the Chicago White Sox. Yamamoto threw three innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. Despite what the box score might suggest, the righty wasn't hit all that hard as three of the six hits were infield singles and a fourth hit was a bunt single. The three walks in three innings were a bit surprising, however, but the good news is he still averaged more than a K per inning and hasn't given up a long ball through five spring innings. The 25-year-old will look to get back on track next time out.

Nestor Cortes Jr. Lasts Four Innings In Latest Spring Start

New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. allowed just one hit a solo home run during Sunday's Spring Training game against the Detroit Tigers. He also issued just one walk, struck out three batters, and lasted four innings, which was an increase over his previous start (2.2 innings). Despite the somewhat mixed results, there's no denying that Cortes pitched much better this Sunday than he did a week earlier against the Minnesota Twins (two runs, seven hits). Fantasy managers should consider the fact that RotoBaller's MLB experts rank Cortes 62nd among pitchers and 230th overall for 2024.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Drives In Run Against San Diego

Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-3 with an RBI single during Tuesday's Spring Training game against the San Diego Padres. The 30-year-old hasn't skipped a beat since re-signing with the National League champion Diamondbacks during the offseason. He slashed .261/.309/.463 with 24 homers and a 106 wRC+ last year, and he is already 6-for-17 with four RBI this spring. Expect him to be an everyday player with legitimate fantasy value once again this year.
