Jon Singleton Signs Minor-League Deal With Mets

First baseman Jon Singleton signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets on Wednesday. He was recently released by the Astros after not making their Opening Day roster, although he was surprisingly effective in 2024. He slashed .234/.321/.386 with 13 home runs, 42 RBI, and 46 runs in 119 games. The slugger strikes out a lot but makes up for it with an excellent walk rate, posting an 11.6% walk rate last season that ranked in the 91st percentile. He could wind up on the Mets major league roster at some point this season as a bench bat or potential DH option.

Luis Arraez Homers, Steals A Base In Win On Wednesday

San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs, and a stolen base in a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. Arraez gave the Padres an insurance run with his solo shot off Tim Herrin in the seventh inning. The veteran infielder had been off to a slow start in 2025 with just two hits in 23 at-bats coming into the game. Arraez is not known for his home-run stroke as he hit just four homers in 637 at-bats during the 2024 season, so fantasy managers shouldn't start him expecting him to carry them in the power department despite his performance on Wednesday. He will hope his big game turns around his early-season fortune moving forward.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Hits Two-Run Home Run Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. turned in a productive game in a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk to help power Arizona to the win. He kicked off the scoring in the game with a one-out, two-run homer off New York starter Carlos Rodon in the first inning, a blast that traveled 399 feet with an exit velocity of 106.8 MPH. Gurriel is now hitting .217 with two homers, four runs, and five RBI through 23 at-bats this season.

Anthony Volpe Hits Three-Run Homer Wednesday

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in a 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Volpe tried to make the game interesting with his three-run shot off Arizona closer A.J. Puk in the bottom of the ninth but the Yankees ultimately fell one run short of tying the game. The veteran shortstop is showing plenty of power to begin the season with four homers in his first 20 at-bats. Volpe will look to stay hot on Thursday as the Yankees conclude their series with the D-Backs.

Tommy Edman Hits Two-Run Homer Wednesday

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Tommy Edman went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Edman launched 415-foot blast off Atlanta starter Bryce Elder in the fourth inning, giving him four homers in 31 at-bats in the early going. The veteran infielder should continue to put up counting stats this season hitting in the middle of a loaded Los Angeles lineup. He will be off on Thursday before the Dodgers open up a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
