Minnesota Twins right-handed pitcher Michael Tonkin (shoulder) has a "slight" shoulder strain and will be examined in a week. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be in danger of missing Opening Day if this injury begins to linger. Tonkin last made an appearance in spring training on February 28. Last season, Tonkin spent time with the Mets, Yankees and Twins. Across 79 1/3 total innings he posted a 3.63 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP. He tallied 85 strikeouts but held a high 8.8 percent walk rate. He also generated a strong 35.0 percent hard-hit rate and a solid 7.4 percent barrel rate. When Tonkin is cleared to return, fantasy managers should expect him to return to his role as a middle reliever. Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, and Brock Stewart are protected to see most of the high-leverage opportunities.

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (hamstring) was scratched from Saturday's Cactus League lineup with hamstring tightness for the second time in a week. Second base prospect Christian Moore will enter the lineup at second base and will bat sixth against the Milwaukee Brewers. Rengifo's hamstring injury shouldn't be something that causes him to miss Opening Day later this month, but the Angels clearly aren't going to rush him back in spring training, especially since shortstop Zach Neto (shoulder) will start the year on the injured list. Between third base, shortstop and second base, the 28-year-old Rengifo should be an everyday player for the Halos in 2025 after hitting .300/.347/.417 with a career-high 24 steals in only 78 games last year. Rengifo doesn't have a ton of power but should contribute a high average thanks to his bat-to-ball skills, making him a decent deep-league target for infield depth.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson had a big day at the plate on Friday in the Grapefruit League win over the Baltimore Orioles, going 3-for-3 with two solo home runs. The former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State University is now hitting .350 (7-for-20) with three home runs, four RBI, one steal and four runs scored in eight spring training games this year as he vies for playing time in 2025 in Detroit. The 25-year-old right-handed power bat clubbed 31 home runs and drove in 94 runs in 2023, but he slashed just .219/.295/.374 with a .669 OPS, 10 home runs and 37 RBI in 92 games for the Tigers last year and looks to be the odd-man out as Opening Day approaches this year. However, Torkelson is still young and could force his way into regular playing time, either at first or DH, if he can continue making consistent contact given the raw power he possesses.

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Drew Thorpe (elbow) is set to throw live batting practice on Tuesday. Thorpe has been throwing bullpen sessions and will now progress to the next step in his recovery. Scott Merkin of MLB.com noted that once Thorpe progresses through live bullpens, he will then look to start a normal five-day routine. The 24-year-old is recovering from a surgery he underwent in the offseason to remove a bone spur from his elbow. However, Thorpe has faced several setbacks which has pushed back his recovery window. Last season, the Cal Poly product made his MLB debut and held a 5.48 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP across 44 1/3 innings of work. He spent most of his campaign at the Double-A level where he posted a strong 1.35 ERA with a stellar 0.87 WHIP. When healthy, he will likely have a spot in the starting rotation.

Minnesota Twins right-handed pitcher Justin Topa (shoulder) is dealing with shoulder tightness and is set to play catch later on Saturday to determine the extent of the injury. The 34-year-old was removed from a spring training contest on Wednesday due to this injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be sidelined if the injury is serious. Last season, Topa logged just two 1/3 innings of work in the major leagues as he spent most of the season on the injured list due to left patellar tendinitis and a tear in his left patellar tendon. During the 2023 campaign, the 34-year-old posted a strong 2.61 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP across 69 innings of work. When he does return to the mound, fantasy managers should expect him to compete for a middle-relief role in the Minnesota bullpen.
