Pete Crow-Armstrong Back In Cactus League Lineup On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong (hamstring) is back in Tuesday's Cactus League lineup against the San Diego Padres, starting in center field and batting seventh. Right-hamstring tightness caused Crow-Armstrong to be scratched from Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but it obviously wasn't a very serious concern since he's back in the lineup a day later and playing center field. The former first-rounder (19th overall) in 2020 has been hot in the early going in spring training, going 7-for-14 with a homer, three doubles, four RBI and a stolen base in five games played. The 22-year-old is expected to be Chicago's starting center fielder in 2025 after slashing .237/.286/.384 with 10 homers, 47 RBI and 27 steals in 123 games last year in his first full year in the bigs. Speed and defense are the main draw for Crow-Armstrong, but his strong finish to the season gives hope to fantasy managers that he could take the next step as a No.3/4 fantasy outfielder.

Taylor Ward, Luis Rengifo Expect To Return Soon

The Athletic's Sam Blum reports that both Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward (knee) and infielder Luis Rengifo (hamstring) said they are fine and expect to return to the Cactus League lineup in a day or so. Ward and Rengifo were both recently scratched from spring training action due to minor injuries -- Ward is dealing with knee soreness, while Rengifo merely had a hamstring cramp. The 31-year-old Ward will continue to serve as the Angels' starting left fielder in 2025 and could also be their leadoff hitter. While nothing he does at the plate jumps off the page to fantasy managers, don't forget that he finished the 2024 season as a top-40 outfielder for a bad Angels team. Rengifo, meanwhile, should also be an everyday player in 2025 as a utility infielder. He has very little power but is useful for infield depth later in drafts for his speed, contact abilities and positional versatility.

Adolis Garcia Scratched With Oblique Issue, Going For MRI

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia (oblique) was scratched from Tuesday's Cactus League game after complaining of a left-oblique issue, and he will head for an MRI exam. It could just be a minor oblique issue, but even if it is, it could put Garcia's availability for Opening Day later this month in question. The 32-year-old Cuban outfielder had 25 home runs and 85 RBI in 154 games for Texas last year, but it was a notable drop in production after he hit .245/.328/.508 with a career-best .836 OPS, 39 home runs and 107 RBI in 2023 on his way to leading the Rangers to their first-ever World Series title. Garcia still hit the ball hard often last year, which gives him a pretty solid floor as a No. 3 fantasy outfielder with pop, but his oblique issue will have fantasy managers a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on him. Stay tuned for news on the severity of Garcia's injury.

Richard Fitts, Quinn Priester Could Be Battling For Fifth Rotation Spot

If Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (shoulder) starts the year on the injured list, right-handers Richard Fitts or Quinn Priester are real possibilities to open the 2025 regular season in the No. 5 starting rotation spot for Boston, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. Bello could miss his first two turns through the rotation to begin the year, even if he avoids setbacks with his shoulder going forward. Fitts has the ability to miss bats and looked good in a small sample size (20 2/3 innings) for the BoSox last year, posting a nice 1.74 ERA, nine strikeouts and seven walks in four starts. The 25-year-old has also struck out five in four scoreless innings so far this spring. Priester, 24, was a former top prospect of the Pirates. He has so far given up one run while striking out one and walking three in two spring starts for Boston. Either Fitts or Priester would merely low-upside, short-term streaming options if they open the year in the rotation.

Rafael Devers Not Ready To Make Spring Debut On Wednesday

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers (shoulders) doesn't feel up to speed at the plate during live batting practice sessions and will not make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. Devers has asked manager Alex Cora for a little more time. Although Devers wants to stay at third base and the Red Sox haven't announced that he'll move off the hot corner in 2025, it's looking more and more likely that he'll at least start the regular season as the team's designated hitter to preserve his health. That would mean Alex Bregman starting at third and prospect Kristian Campbell slotting in at the keystone regularly. Not only was the 28-year-old's defense not very strong at third in 2024, but he battled injuries to both of his shoulders. He's currently not in danger of missing Opening Day, but there are more questions surround Devers as a midrange starting fantasy third baseman.
