Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen beat the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon 4-1, fanning nine hitters while surrendering two hits and four walks. Gallen is now 10-6 with a 3.65 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 111 strikeouts in 116 innings. The veteran has battled inconsistency all season and is 1-1 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in August with 19 strikeouts in 22 innings. This month, he has also coughed up 10 earned runs and 10 walks. If the Diamondbacks are going to make a playoff run this season, they will need Gallen to be his usual stalwart self for the last six weeks of the season.

Miami Marlins second baseman and outfielder Connor Norby hit his first homer for the team on Saturday in a 14-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Norby was traded to the Marlins by the Baltimore Orioles in the Trevor Rogers acquisition at the trade deadline. In 20 at-bats over the last week, Norby has six hits, with one home run, two RBI, one stolen base, and four runs scored. It appears that Norby will get an extended run in the daily lineup for the also-ran Marlins and that he could be a good source of counting statistics for the team.

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras (finger) took a fastball off the right hand in the fourth inning of Saturday's 6-0 loss to the Twins, and after initially staying in the game to run the bases, has now been diagnosed with a fractured right middle finger. The Cardinals are expected to call up Ivan Herrera to replace him and split time with backup catcher Pedro Pages. Herrera filled in for Contreras earlier this season during Contreras' first IL stint, slashing .279/.340/.378 with three home runs, a .317 wOBA, and 105 wRC+ over 54 games. No timetable has been given for how long Contreras will be out, but it'd be hard to imagine he'll be back before the regular season ends.

Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles (finger) took a fastball off the right hand after squaring to bunt during Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Giants. It initially looked bad, with Robles in a lot of pain. However, X-rays were taken that came back negative, meaning the Dominican is dealing with a right index-finger contusion. The 27-year-old is considered day-to-day for now. Robles had been enjoying somewhat of a renaissance in Seattle after several underwhelming seasons in Washington, slashing .280/.340/.413 with 13 extra-base hits and 14 steals in just 51 games for the Mariners, so hopefully he can return soon.

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor went 2-for-5 in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Padres, with both hits coming via the home run. The first one in the fourth inning came with the bases loaded as he drove in four runs with the grand slam off Padres starter Michael King, and the second was a solo shot in the seventh inning. Lindor now has five home runs in his last 11 games and has collected multiple hits in four of his last five. The former first-round pick is having a phenomenal year, putting together a .269-27-78-89-25 line with a .357 wOBA and 135 wRC+. The 27-year-old now has the second-best odds for N.L. MVP behind only Shohei Ohtani.
