Jacob Lopez Set To Start On Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitching prospect Jacob Lopez is set to start Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Right-hander Shane Baz was scheduled to be on the bump this afternoon for the Rays but was scratched due to an illness. As a result, the No. 16 ranked prospect in the system is being promoted to Triple-A Durham to serve as a spot starter. Lopez has made three appearances in the major leagues this summer and held an 8.44 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP across five innings of work. At Triple-A, Lopez has carried a 3.15 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP across his past 40 innings of work with a 17:51 BB:K ratio. Lopez is best to leave off of your DFS lineup as he will face the high-powered Dodger offense.

Ben Rice Sitting On Sunday

New York Yankees first baseman/catcher Ben Rice is not in Sunday's lineup as the Yankees close out a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies. Rice will take a seat as southpaw Austin Gomber is set to take the mound for the Rockies. However, Rice has surprisingly started against left-handed pitchers twice this week, so this may be a rest day for the rookie. Since the start of the month, the 25-year-old has been in a 2-for-32 slump with no extra-base hits. As a result, Jose Trevino will get the nod behind the dish, and DJ LeMahieu will start at first base. Both Trevino and LeMahieu are worth a look in DFS as Gomber enters Sunday with a hefty 4.64 ERA.

Kolby Allard Getting Starting Nod On Sunday

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kolby Allard is being promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make a spot start in Sunday's series finale against the Kansas City Royals. Allard has made three starts at the major league level this summer and has held a 3.46 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP across 13 innings of work. At Triple-A this summer, Allard has posted a disappointing 5.75 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. If he performs well this afternoon, Allard could be in line to receive a handful of starts over the next few weeks. DFS players should fade Allard this afternoon as the Royals hold a strong 18.3 K rate against southpaws this summer.

DJ LeMahieu Back In The Lineup

New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (face) is back in the starting lineup on Sunday for the series finale against the Colorado Rockies at Yankee Stadium, playing first base and batting ninth against Rockies left-hander Austin Gomber. LeMahieu had to be scratched from the series opener on Friday after he was hit in the face by a ball during pre-game warmups. The 36-year-old didn't play on Saturday but was cleared from the league's concussion protocol, allowing him to return on Sunday. The matchup against Gomber is a nice one, but it's hard to recommend LeMahieu to any DFS gamers the way he's been hitting this year, especially at the bottom of the lineup. He has only had 185 at-bats in 2024 and is batting just .189/.263/.249 with two homers, 24 RBI and 16 runs scored. LeMahieu is getting the nod at first with rookie Ben Rice sitting against the southpaw.

Ty France Out Of Sunday's Lineup

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Ty France is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in the series finale. Dominic Smith will start at the cold corner and will hit seventh against Pirates right-hander Luis L. Ortiz. France appears to be on the short side of a platoon in Cincy with Smith, as he's been on the bench for two of the last three games against right-handed pitching. The 30-year-old was cut by the Seattle Mariners after hitting .223/.312/.350 with eight home runs, 31 RBI and 83 strikeouts in 88 games. Since joining the Reds, he has gone 16-for-67 (.239) with three home runs, four doubles and seven RBI. The fact that France isn't playing regularly with Jeimer Candelario (toe) on the injured list, doesn't bode well for his fantasy value the rest of the year with his new squad.
