Cam Collier Snaps Minor Skid

Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Cam Collier has snapped his previous 1-for-13 skid he held for most of last week. In his previous three games, the first-round selection in the 2022 MLB Draft has gone 5-for-9 with a .556/.600/.778 line with five RBI and two doubles. Prior to his minor cold stretch, the infielder posted a dominant .417/.523/.722 line his previous 10 games. Collier has spent the entire summer at High-A and held a solid .248/.344/.424 line with 15 home runs, 59 RBI, 19 doubles and a 50:119 BB:K ratio through 99 games. The 19-year-old is ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the Reds system on MLB.com and should spend most of next summer in the upper levels of the minor leagues.

Max Scherzer Throws 25-Pitch Bullpen

Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (shoulder) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session on Friday and said he will try to throw 40 pitches in another bullpen on Sunday. Scherzer also said he can still compete at a high level and sounds like a guy who plans to return in 2025. The 40-year-old three-time Cy Young winner is on a mission to return to Texas' starting rotation to close out the year despite the team being firmly out of postseason contention. He was shut down on Aug. 2 and put on the 15-day injured list due to right-shoulder fatigue, but he's been feeling much better since recently receiving a nerve injection in his arm. We won't bet against Scherzer returning this year, but the eight-time All-Star is running out of time to make a fantasy impact and is no longer the dominant ace we've come to know him as.

Bryce Eldridge Extends Hitting Streak To Nine Games

San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Bryce Eldridge extended his hitting streak to nine games on Thursday evening, going 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. During this stretch, the 19-year-old has held a stellar .452/.581/.1.000 slash line with four home runs, 11 RBI, and an 11:6 BB:K ratio. Overall, through his first 34 games at High-A Eugene, the top prospect in the Bay Area has posted a strong .325/.446/.545 line with six home runs and 29 RBI. The former first-round selection in last year's draft remains several seasons away from his major league debut but has settled in quite nicely in the lower levels of the minor leagues throughout his young career.

Bo Bichette Doing Baseball Activities

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (calf) has started to do some baseball activities at the team's spring training complex in Dunedin, Fla., according to manager John Schneider. Bichette will likely ramp up in Florida for a while and then check back in with the Blue Jays to evaluate a minor-league rehab assignment. It's nice to see the 26-year-old making progress, but at this rate, he's unlikely to rejoin the big-league squad until September, especially with the Blue Jays having little to play for. Right-calf issues have sidelined Bichette this year, and he's also hit a very disappointing .223/.276/.321 with just four home runs, 30 RBI and five stolen bases in 305 at-bats. The former second-rounder should remain stashed everywhere, but he's running out of time to help in fantasy. Rookie Leo Jimenez should continue to serve as the primary shortstop for Toronto.

Tyler O'Neill To Return On Saturday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (leg) will come off the 10-day injured list on Saturday. It was initially reported that O'Neill was targeting a return from a leg infection on either Sunday or Monday, but he'll now return a little earlier. The 29-year-old was released from a hospital earlier this week and will rejoin the big-league roster this weekend in a crucial series at Camden Yards against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles. O'Neill has been out since Aug. 2 and isn't going on a minor-league rehab assignment, so fantasy managers may want to expect a little rust at the plate. His return should push Ceddanne Rafaela back to regular duties at shortstop, with Jarren Duran shifting to center field. O'Neill has produced 22 home runs, 45 RBI and 59 runs scored in 298 at-bats in his first year in Beantown in 2024 while hitting .268 (80-for-298).
